Job Summary
The Opportunity Wolverhampton is a city with a proud industrial heart and a rapidly evolving culinary scene offering a fantastic environment for a Food Technology specialist. We are looking for an educator who can blend practical cookery skills with the rigorous science of nutrition. This role involves teaching students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 helping them understand where their food comes from and how to prepare it safely and creatively while meeting the requirements of the modern curriculum.
The Department
You will be based in specialized food rooms equipped with individual cooking stations and professional-grade appliances.
A dedicated food technician is available to manage ingredient ordering equipment maintenance and health and safety compliance.
The department follows a collaborative approach to lesson planning sharing high-quality resources and innovative practical recipes.
We maintain strong links with local businesses and colleges to provide students with pathways into the catering and hospitality sectors.
Core Responsibilities
Planning and delivering practical and theoretical lessons that cover nutrition food safety and complex culinary techniques.
Supervising students during practical sessions to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and equipment safety are maintained.
Teaching the functional and chemical properties of ingredients linking science directly to the kitchen environment.
Preparing Key Stage 4 students for their GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition exams through focused theory and high-level practical assessments.
Promoting an awareness of food provenance sustainability and healthy eating habits across the wider school community.
The Successful Candidate We are seeking a teacher who is passionate about food and able to inspire students with a hands-on approach to learning. Requirements include
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Food Technology Nutrition or a related field.
The ability to manage a high-energy practical classroom effectively while ensuring all students make progress.
Strong technical knowledge of the current national curriculum and GCSE examination specifications.
