Job Summary
The Opportunity Barnsley is a town with a fascinating industrial past and a landscape that serves as a perfect case study for urban regeneration and physical geography. We are looking for a Geography Teacher who can bring global issues to life within a local context helping students explore everything from tectonic hazards to the challenges of modern urbanization. This role involves delivering the curriculum across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 fostering a deep curiosity about the world and our impact on it.
The Department
You will join a Humanities faculty that prioritizes fieldwork and inquiry-based learning making use of the local South Yorkshire landscape for practical studies.
The department is equipped with modern GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software and high-quality digital mapping tools to enhance spatial analysis.
We follow a collaborative curriculum model where schemes of work and digital resources are shared across the team to streamline planning.
Regular extracurricular opportunities include regional field trips environmental clubs and participation in national geography competitions.
Core Responsibilities
Planning and delivering high-impact lessons that cover both physical and human geography from coastal management to global economic shifts.
Developing students geographical skills including map reading data interpretation and the use of statistical evidence in essay writing.
Leading fieldwork activities that allow students to collect primary data and apply classroom theory to real-world environments.
Preparing Year 11 students for their GCSE examinations through rigorous revision of case studies and exam technique workshops.
Encouraging students to engage with contemporary global issues such as climate change sustainability and international development.
The Successful Candidate We are seeking an educator who is passionate about the environment and social justice. Requirements include
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Geography or a closely related environmental science.
The ability to simplify complex global systems and make them relevant to a diverse student body.
A strong understanding of the current national curriculum and GCSE assessment criteria for Geography.
Excellent communication skills and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and inquisitive classroom culture.
