The Geography Department

Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Geography Teacher you will be responsible for fostering a deep understanding of the planet and its people. Your responsibilities will include:
Instructional Excellence: Planning and delivering high-quality academically rigorous lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will prepare students for GCSE examinations by developing their ability to interpret maps analyze data and evaluate complex environmental issues.
A-Level Specialism: For candidates with the appropriate expertise there is the opportunity to teach at Key Stage 5 guiding students through advanced topics such as carbon and water cycles global systems and place-based identities.
Fieldwork Leadership: Planning and leading essential fieldwork experiences. We utilize the diverse landscapes of Essex and the East of England to ensure students gain hands-on experience in data collection and geographical inquiry.
Digital Innovation: Integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other digital tools into the classroom to help students visualize and manipulate spatial data.
Global Citizenship: Encouraging students to engage with contemporary issues such as sustainability hazard management and international development fostering a sense of ethical responsibility toward the planet.
Literacy and Numeracy: Supporting students in developing the high-level descriptive and statistical skills required to excel in geographical report writing and data analysis.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be an articulate and enthusiastic subject specialist with a passion for the natural and social sciences. You should possess:
Academic and Professional Credentials: A degree in Geography or a related field and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). We welcome applications from both experienced practitioners and Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
Subject Authority: A strong command of both physical and human geography with the ability to explain complex cause-and-effect relationships with clarity and enthusiasm.
Pedagogical Skill: A range of teaching strategies that promote active learning from case-study-led debates to practical fieldwork and land-use mapping.
Communication and Rapport: The ability to build strong professional relationships with students inspiring them to achieve their best through high expectations and a supportive classroom atmosphere.
