The Estates Team
The estates team is responsible for a large and diverse site ranging from traditional classroom blocks to specialized sports and creative arts a busy school environment effective site management is the foundation of daily operations.
You will lead a team of caretaking and cleaning staff working closely with the School Business Manager to plan and execute both reactive repairs and long-term improvement projects. Main Duties and Responsibilities
As the Site Manager you will have overall responsibility for the physical integrity and operational safety of the school. Your responsibilities will include:
Strategic Site Management: Developing and implementing a comprehensive programme of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to ensure the building fabric plant and machinery are kept in optimal condition.
Health and Safety Leadership: Acting as the schools primary Health and Safety officer. This includes managing risk assessments overseeing fire safety protocols coordinating COSHH records and ensuring the site is compliant with all statutory regulations.
Security and Access: Overseeing the security of the premises managing the CCTV and alarm systems and coordinating the locking and unlocking schedules for the site including during evening and weekend community use.
Project Management: Planning and supervising small-to-medium scale building projects and refurbishments ensuring they are completed on time within budget and with minimal disruption to learning.
Contractor Management: Procuring and supervising external contractors ensuring all health and safety requirements are met and that work is carried out to a high standard.
Team Leadership: Managing the site team including caretaking and cleaning staff coordinating their workloads and identifying training needs to maintain a skilled and motivated workforce.
Budgetary Oversight: Managing the estates and maintenance budget ensuring value for money when purchasing supplies and commissioning external services.
Environmental Stewardship: Leading on the schools sustainability initiatives from managing waste and recycling to optimizing energy efficiency across the site.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be a highly organized and technically proficient individual with a strong background in facilities or estates management. You should possess:
Technical Expertise: Proven experience in site management building maintenance or a related trade. You should have a sound understanding of building systems including heating electrical and plumbing.
Health and Safety Knowledge: A recognized qualification in Health and Safety (such as IOSH or NEBOSH) is highly desirable along with a thorough understanding of statutory compliance in a public building.
Leadership and Management: The ability to lead and motivate a team with experience in managing staff performance and coordinating complex schedules.
Project and Financial Skills: Experience in managing budgets and supervising external contractors or capital projects from inception to completion.
Communication and Professionalism: The ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders from the Senior Leadership Team and Governors to students parents and external agencies.
Resilience and Flexibility: A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to site emergencies or unexpected challenges.
