Job description
The University of Deusto invites expressions of interest from candidates with a profile in Applied Mathematics and Machine Learning inconnection with future calls linked to doctoral researchpositions within the Chair of Computational Mathematics (CCM) & Computational Mathematics Research Group (CMRG) at DeustoTech University of Deusto Bilbao.
This communication is intended to identify profiles of potential interest for future calls in this field. It is therefore aimed at candidates whose academic background and aligned research interests.
Our team works actively in the broad area of Applied Mathematics and Machine
Learning developing and applying methods of Mathematical and Computational Mathematics to model understand design and control the dynamics of various phenomena arising in the interface of Mathematics with Engineering Physics Environment and Climate Sciences and Social Sciences.
This is an exceptional opportunity for predoctoral researchers interested in pursuing a PhD in Applied Mathematics and wishes to develop their doctoral research within the Computational Mathematics Research Group. The candidate is expected to be able to structure and address the research challenges of the CCM &CMRG and collaborate and work effectively with internal and external teams within the groups research interests. Depending on experience the candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in an international and interdisciplinary environment.

Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a degree and a masters degree in Applied Mathematics.
- Knowledge in at least one of the following fields will be particularly valued: Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence; control and optimization; analysis and numerics for Partial Differential Equations.
- Have advanced knowledge in scientific programming (R Python Matlab).
- Excellent knowledge of English (oral/written) is compulsory for the job profile and the development of the associated tasks.
Applicants must attach the following documentation:
- Proof of enrolment in a University of Deusto PhD programme or an admission letter for the 2025/2026 academic year.
- Official academic transcript of previous official university studies (1st and 2nd cycle) including the degree programme subjects taken subjects passed grades obtained dates of completion and the average mark on a scale from 0 to 10.
- In the case of studies completed abroad an official academic certificate must also be submitted together with a sworn translation if it is not issued in one of the two co-official languages of the Basque Autonomous Community or in all cases the certificate or supporting document must state the maximum and minimum grades within the corresponding assessment system as well as the minimum grade required to addition applicants must provide the Statement of Equivalence of Average Gradeissued by the Spanish Ministry of Education Culture and Sport (MECD) or ANECAs official certificate indicating the average grade of the academic transcript within the Spanish evaluation system.
