Description

The Hardware Test Engineer III is responsible for the testing and validation of new embedded microprocessor based electronic control designs and the support of contract manufacturers building controls for Rheem HVAC and water heating products including test requirements test fixture design component qualification and life cycle support. Will work to improve DFM and DFT of controls within Rheem. This is a key position on the electronic controls team within Rheems Advanced Technology Integration organization providing advanced technologies and systems solutions for Rheems Water Heating Air Conditioning Friedrich Eemax Raypak and HTPG business units.

This role will support our Enterprise division in Indianapolis IN (Onsite).



Responsibilities
  • Work with systems engineering product engineering and marketing to develop verification and validation requirements for specific HVAC and water heating applications.

  • Manage large scale product testing projects from product concept through to production.

  • Work with cross functional teams through direct interactions and team meetings in developing and translating new concepts into applications. Create and publish professional test plans and test reports.

  • Design and create automated test fixtures using CAD and LabVIEW.

  • Develop performance and qualification test methods coordinate the implementation of experiments and evaluate test results. participate in formal design reviews of electronic controls requirements schematics layouts as well as FMEA DFM DFT and other related analyses.

  • Support the review and release of formal requirements design and qualification documentation.

  • Work with contract manufacturers to prepare for product builds including review of design documentation and testing requirements and overseeing technical aspects of qualification builds.

  • Work with manufacturers to develop test methods for Rheem control products.

  • Evaluate manufacturing systems and test methods to assure quality construction of Rheem controls.

  • Continue to develop professionally. Represent company as requested in technical societies and keep the company advised of pertinent developments new concepts and opportunities.



Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Minimum 5 years of related experience

  • Experience with electronic controls including analog and digital circuit design prototyping qualifying and commercialization planning

  • Experience in design and supervision of the construction of test fixtures for new design concepts

  • Experience with electronic analysis methodologies and associated instrumentation

  • Experience in managing projects to meet goals and deadlines.

  • Able to work successfully with multiple departments such as R&D marketing manufacturing service engineering suppliers and customers

  • Technical knowledge of product design and failure analysis

  • Working knowledge of statistical methods and/or Design-of-Experiments (DOE)

  • Familiarity with practices of wireless testing technology.

  • Familiarity with multiple communications media and protocol such as wired wireless optic CAN BACnet Modbus TCP/IP.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Word Excel PowerPoint and OneNote

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree

  • Experience with building automated testing with LabView.

  • Experience utilizing a formal Product Development Process

  • Performing conducted and radiated emissions and susceptibility EMC testing and analyzing test results

  • Software architecture and programming for embedded microprocessor based electronic controls
