Sentara Leigh Hospital is seeking an experienced dedicated Registered Nurse for our Labor & Delivery unit. As part of a top 10 busiest Labor & Delivery unit in Virginia you will work in a fast-paced environment that has recently expanded to 41 beds featuring private comfortable rooms for labor delivery and recovery. The team at Sentara Leigh focuses on family-centered care collaborating with physicians midwives and doulas to provide exceptional patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care:Assess plan and implement care for patients in labor providing care from admission to discharge including labor delivery recovery and postpartum care.
- Clinical Proficiency:Monitor fetal heart rates perform vaginal exams assess maternal vitals and manage high-risk cases in a fast-paced environment.
- Surgical Support:Act as a circulating or scrub nurse for cesarean sections and assist providers with epidural placement and other procedures.
- Medication Management:Administer medications including Pitocin for induction pain management and IV fluids.
- Emergency Response:Demonstrate sound decision-making and swift action during obstetric emergencies (e.g. shoulder dystocia fetal distress).
- Collaboration:Work closely with a team of physicians nurse midwives and lactation consultants.
- Patient Education:Provide education to patients and families regarding newborn care breastfeeding and postpartum recovery.
Qualifications
- Experience:At least 1 year of Labor & Delivery or Antepartum experience is required.
- Licensure:Valid RN License to work in Virginia or Compact Multi-State License.
- Education:Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing (ADN BSN Diploma or MSN). BSN is preferred.
- Certifications:BLS (Basic Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) are required.
