HOD Electerical Maintenance
Job Summary
Own electrical reliability of all process lines: cold rolling mill drive systems (DC/AC main drives coiler drives AGC) pickling line drives annealing furnace heating controls skin pass drives slitting and CTL line drives and controls.
Manage HT/LT power distribution: 33kV/11kV substation transformers (power and distribution) HT panels LT panels bus ducts capacitor banks power factor correction harmonic filters and earthing systems.
Ensure PLC and automation system reliability: maintain PLC hardware resolve logic issues manage HMI systems ensure communication networks (Profibus Profinet Ethernet) are healthy. Coordinate with OEM for Level 1 and Level 2 system support.
Own instrumentation and sensor reliability: load cells tension meters thickness gauges (X- ray/laser) temperature sensors pressure transducers flow meters and other process instruments critical for quality and control.
Drive energy efficiency: monitor power consumption per tonne identify energy loss events manage demand-side load management optimise drive efficiency and maintain power quality (voltage harmonics power factor).
Manage electrical preventive maintenance: transformer oil testing breaker servicing relay testing cable insulation testing (megger) drive maintenance schedules and UPS/battery systems.
Reduce electrical breakdowns: maintain a breakdown log conduct RCA for every electrical downtime event >15 minutes track MTBF/MTTR for electrical systems.
Ensure electrical safety: manage lockout-tagout procedures electrical permit-to-work arc flash protection and compliance with IE Rules. Ensure all installations meet IS standards.
Handle statutory compliance: electrical inspector approvals HT installation licences earthing certifications energy audit requirements and periodic testing certifications.
Manage critical electrical spares: drive cards thyristor stacks PLC modules contactors breakers fuses sensors. Maintain minimum inventory for critical items.
Supervise electrical contractors and AMC vendors (drive OEMs transformer testing agencies panel builders). Ensure quality of outsourced work.
Coordinate with mechanical maintenance and production for electrical work during shutdowns and planned outages.
Build and train the electrical team: electricians instrument technicians and automation support engineers. Develop in-house troubleshooting capability for drives and PLCs.
Manage the electrical maintenance budget: track actual vs budget monthly justify variances and plan annual expenditure.
Support commissioning and testing of new electrical installations during plant expansion.
