Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The PCU RN provides specialized care to patients with complex medical conditions including cardiac respiratory and post-surgical cases. This role requires advanced monitoring including telemetry and a high level of nursing intervention for patients needing closer monitoring than medical/surgical units but less than the ICU. The RN will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes.

The PCU RN provides specialized care to patients with complex medical conditions including cardiac respiratory and post-surgical cases. This role requires advanced monitoring including telemetry and a high level of nursing intervention for patients needing closer monitoring than medical/surgical units but less than the ICU. The RN will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and continuous monitoring of patient vitals and telemetry data.
- Administer medications manage intravenous lines and perform complex medical treatments.
- Develop implement and update individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians.
- Educate patients and families on disease management and post-discharge self-care.
- Act as a patient advocate providing compassionate care and support to families.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatment within the electronic health record system.
Qualifications
- Education:Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Licensure:Active unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of Virginia.
- Experience:Minimum of 1-2 years of acute care experience with PCU or ICU experience preferred.
- Certifications:Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) preferred.
