Job Summary
The Operating Room RN (Circulator) provides nursing care to patients throughout the perioperative continuum. This role involves coordinating patient care with surgeons anesthesiologists and technicians ensuring a sterile and safe environment and advocating for the patient while under anesthesia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perioperative Assessment:Perform thorough preoperative assessments and prepare the operating room ensuring all equipment supplies and instruments are functional and sterile.
- Intraoperative Care:Function as a circulating nurse anticipating the needs of the surgical team assisting with positioning maintaining aseptic technique and documenting patient care meticulously.
- Patient Advocacy:Act as a patient advocate ensuring safety and comfort while the patient is anesthetized.
- Collaboration:Coordinate with surgeons and anesthesia providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes during surgical procedures.
- Specialized Care:Support surgical specialties including Cancer Care orthopedics and neurosurgery.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact state.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- Previous Operating Room experience strongly preferred ideally in an acute care setting.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to align with Sentaras compassionate care standards.
