ELA Teacher
Summary:Under the Executive Directors supervision the English Language Arts 6th-8th Grade Teacherwill provide quality instruction aligned to the state and national standards. Use various diagnostic formative and summative assessment strategies to inform instructional decisions and increase student self-management of learning.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develops and administers school middle school curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students needs including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping grading and reporting for all student activities achievements and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Coordinates with other middle school professional staff members especially within a grade level and specific subjects and to evaluate and assess curriculum.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Supervises students in activities outside the classroom during the school day including activities involving school transportation.
- Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Collaborates with other staff members and participates in faculty meetings Aurora professional development opportunities and committees.
- Participates in various student and parent activities in school including curriculum nights parent/teacher conferences and school events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred not required.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts including all subject matters taught.
- Knowledge of data information systems data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted during work.
Education and Experience:
- Current MN teaching license in English for gradesor Communication Arts & Literature for gradesor possess ability to obtain an alternative teaching license (Tier 1 or Tier 2). Inquire for more information if clarification is needed.
- Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment possess a valid Minnesota Drivers License or state identification satisfactorily pass a criminal background check and comply with organizational and district policies.
Physical Requirements:
- Required to lift or carry classroom supplies textbooks furniture and equipment to a minimum of 35 pounds.
- Required to sit stand bend stoop reach grab pull hear see and speak on a daily basis.
- Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding writing and reading
