Job Summary

Bennington College welcomes applications for the Director of Health Services position. The Director provides high-quality culturally sensitive and gender affirming general health care for common and recurring medical needs supervising and coordinating a small administrative and clinical team. This position works in close partnership with the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) to support overall wellness operations.

Bennington Colleges Health Center functions as an integrative care center offering both medical and counseling services in collaboration with the Wellness Unit. As a part of the Student Life team the Director will report to the Associate Dean and Director of Integrative Wellness collaborating with all Student Life units as well as other administrative and academic units as needed including the Director of CAPS and CAPS team members. The Director of Health Services works clinically with students and provides quality assurance of staff including interns.

Schedule and Work Arrangement

The position is generally full-time during the academic term (35 hours/week for 32 weeks) and part-time during the non-term periods (20 hours/week for 20 weeks). A majority of the work is performed in a clinical office setting requiring an on-campus presence. Occasional travel is necessary to attend public health meetings and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high-quality culturally sensitive and gender affirming direct care for a diverse student population inclusive of members of ethnically/racially minoritized international LGBTQIA and disability communities as well as diverse gender identities socioeconomic backgrounds religions and political beliefs.
  • Oversees the administration of the student health insurance policy with the Associate Dean of Integrative Wellness and works with the Administrative Assistant and Biller to oversee the tracking of billable and non-billable student visits. Develops and directs procedures for patient billing with/to the appropriate health insurance carrier.
  • Ensures appropriate recruitment training supervision development and evaluation of professional and administrative support staff including interns.
  • Works in collaboration with Student Life units (including Counseling and Psychological Services Wellness Education Campus Safety Residence Life and Student Engagement) to educate the community and to ensure the care and safety of students on campus.
  • Develops and maintains operational protocols ensuring compliance with state and professional ethics standards of care and licensure requirements
  • Makes ongoing independent decisions around risk management and referrals. Will follow up with students who have experienced medical emergencies and are transported to ER or urgent care as necessary.
  • Recruits and hires clinical staff supervises and evaluates staff performance implements performance interventions as necessary and promotes continuous staff development through on-the-job training. Authorizes attendance at healthcare conferences and courses shares articles and publications related to public health issues.
  • Oversees the ordering of pharmaceuticals medical and surgical supplies/equipment.
  • Stays up to date with information and trends related to the health of college students.
  • Serves on relevant college committees and working groups.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Masters degree with current or eligible to obtain APRN licensure in the State of Vermont and board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. MD ND DO candidates are welcome.
  2. Current DEA certificate NPI number CPR and First Aid certification.
  3. A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a clinical (primary care urgent care or similar) and administrative leader in an educational setting.
  4. Ability to set specific measurable and responsive goals related to health services fiscal responsibility and staff development and supervision.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse racial socio-cultural economic and national backgrounds in support of student services and student learning.
  6. Strong knowledge of the social psychological and physical developmental stages of college students
  7. Strong problem-solving organizational and budgeting skills.
  8. Computer literacy including Google Suite and an electronic health record system.
  9. Bennington College requires employees having clinical contact with patients to have a single adult pertussis booster tuberculosis screening test and annual influenza immunization; such will be provided at no cost to the employee.

Compensation: The salary for this position starts at $120000.
