Job Summary
Journeyman Machinist
Job Summary:
Provide technical services to support the Colleges research and teaching efforts including but not limited to machine instruction safety training maintenance of equipment design machining fabrication and recommendation through installation of new equipment. Provide assistance to faculty and students while promoting compliance with safety regulations.
Essential Functions:
40%-60% Perform various design machining fabrication and troubleshooting procedures. Provide support in terms of CAD/CAM. Instruct students and faculty in the appropriate use of machinery electronic instruments and computers hardware/software.
10%-15% Recommend maintain install trouble-shoot and repair technical equipment.
10% Consult with vendors and oversees purchasing activities to properly secure technical items supplies and
equipment for the College.
15% Monitor specific environmental health and safety regulations and coordinate with other units on campus.

Required Qualifications:
Education:
Requires 18 months of education or training beyond high school. Associates degree preferred.
Licenses/Certifications/Requirements:
Journeyman machinist
Experience:
Requires a minimum of 4 years experience in CAD/CAM machining and mechanical design. Strong communication skills required. Knowledge of CNC hardware and software as well as manual machining equipment is required. Experience in part design and fabrication using mills lathes drill press and sheet metal work. Windows machine tool and die making and troubleshooting of undergraduate laboratory equipment required.
Leadership:
Responsible for directing and monitoring the work of student and/or temporary workers.
Physical Requirements:
Moderate physical effort required involving long periods of standing walking on rough surfaces bending and/or stooping;
periodic lifting of moderately heavy items (over 25 lbs. -- 50 lbs.).
Working Conditions:
Routine discomforts from exposure to moderate levels of heat cold moisture/wetness noise and air pollution. May involve
routine/occasional exposure to light chemical substances or hazards (radiation chemicals diseases heights and moving parts).
Compensation: Compensation starts at $58000 and is commensurate with experience.
