Job Summary
Join our team at the Public Safety Communications Centre! The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking professional detail oriented and highly motivated individuals to assume the part time casual positions of Emergency Dispatchers. These positions will require candidates to be able to demonstrate their flexibility in availability and ability to attend work with limited scheduled notice. This work environment is scheduled 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
Reporting to the Manager of Emergency Preparedness and under the direct supervision of the Emergency Dispatch Supervisor the Part time Casual Emergency Dispatchers will be responsible for assisting the public by providing emergency and non-emergency dispatching services for the Fire Division the Municipal Enforcement Division and the Public Works Department. The working hours will vary will include evenings weekends and statutory holidays. Incumbents must be prepared to work up to 12 hour shifts both during the day or overnight. Some hours may be scheduled in advance others will require the ability to attend work with little notice.
Emergency Dispatchers must have strong communication skills and possess the ability to deliver clear and concise communication for providing instructions in both non-emergency and emergency situations. The incumbents must demonstrate the ability to perform independently; utilizing sound judgment to mediate a variety of emergency situations and possess the ability to operate both FDM CAD and SCADA computerized systems.
The below listed specific vocational qualifications are also required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Standard First Aid/CPR
- Demonstrated Proficiency with multiple software platforms

The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive hourly wage of $45.71 per hour with an additional 4% Vacation pay for this position.
