JV Head Boys Soccer Coach

Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools (GCCS) serves more than 1600 students from PreK12 and is a free open-enrollment public charter school system located in Kansas City Missouri. Over 97% of our students identify as Latinx and many are bilingual or English learners. Our network includes Guadalupe Centers Elementary School Guadalupe Centers Middle School and Guadalupe Centers High School.

Position Summary

The JV Head Boys Soccer Coach is responsible for leading developing and managing the junior varsity boys soccer program. This role focuses on fostering student-athlete growth through skill development teamwork sportsmanship and character building. The coach will create a safe structured and positive environment while ensuring compliance with school district and MSHSAA guidelines. This is a seasonal position based at Guadalupe Centers High School and its athletic facilities.

Athletic Director and Building Principal (or designee)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan organize and lead all practices games and team activities.

  • Teach and model fundamental soccer skills rules and strategies.

  • Create and maintain a safe inclusive and positive environment for student-athletes.

  • Establish and enforce expectations for behavior sportsmanship and team culture.

  • Supervise student-athletes before during and after practices and games.

  • Evaluate student-athletes and make fair and appropriate team selection decisions.

  • Develop game strategies including effective player development and substitutions.

  • Maintain accurate rosters eligibility documentation and required reports.

  • Ensure compliance with all MSHSAA district and school policies and requirements.

  • Maintain and inventory athletic equipment and facilities.

  • Coordinate schedules transportation and logistics in collaboration with the Athletic Director.

  • Build positive relationships with students families and school staff.

  • Promote student participation conditioning and off-season development opportunities.

  • Model professionalism in communication conduct and appearance.

  • Provide first aid and respond appropriately in emergency situations.

  • Participate in required trainings and professional development.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to manage and supervise students in active and competitive environments.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree preferred OR service as an approved Assistant Coach for a minimum of two school years (per MSHSAA guidelines).

  • Valid teaching certificate preferred OR completion of the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course (one-time requirement).

  • Successful completion of:

    • Sports First Aid (renewed every two years)

    • CPR/AED certification (renewed every two years)

    • Concussion in Sports Course (with annual review)

    • MSHSAA sport-specific rules review each season

  • Minimum of three years of coaching experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand walk and actively participate for extended periods during practices and games.

  • Ability to move across athletic fields and facilities.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
