Position Summary

The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive standards-based physical education program that promotes lifelong fitness health and wellness. This role engages students in a variety of physical activities including individual and team sports while teaching proper techniques safety and sportsmanship. The teacher also fosters social-emotional development through collaboration teamwork and positive interactions among students.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a safe inclusive and engaging learning environment that promotes student participation and well-being.

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction in physical education including fitness movement health concepts rhythms/dance and individual and team sports.

• Demonstrate and teach proper techniques rules and strategies to ensure safe and effective participation in physical activities.

• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students including individualized and small group support when appropriate.

• Establish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior to ensure a structured and productive environment.

• Assess student progress and provide feedback on physical social and skill development.

• Collaborate with colleagues staff and families to support student success including participation in IEP and 504 meetings as needed.

• Supervise students during physical activities and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

• Participate in professional development and ongoing learning opportunities.

• Maintain accurate records and fulfill all professional responsibilities promptly.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Bachelors Degree in Physical Education Elementary Education Secondary Education or a related field.

• Valid Missouri teaching certification in Physical Education (K12 preferred).

• Experience in an urban school setting preferred.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

• Meets Missouri Highly Qualified requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to actively participate in and demonstrate physical activities including sports and fitness exercises.

• Ability to stand walk and remain active for extended periods.

• Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.

• Ability to supervise and engage students in indoor and outdoor environments.
