Science Resource Manager / Chemical Hygiene Officer

The University of Lynchburg invites applications for a Science Resource Manager and Chemical Hygiene Officer to begin July 1 2026. Candidates must have a strong background in Biology or Chemistry with experience managing scientific laboratory facilities and scientific equipment. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate exceptional potential as a teacher and will be able to teach introductory courses as well as courses in their area of expertise. The ideal candidate will combine meticulous organization and attention to detail with the ability to communicate effectively pivot during unexpected challenges and collaborate with stakeholders across multiple departments.

Specific Job Duties:

As the Sciences Resource Manager and Chemical Hygiene Officer you will play a critical role in the operational success and safety of the Universitys science programs. You will provide direct administrative support to the Dean faculty and staff by managing expenditures tracking purchases and maintaining comprehensive chemical and equipment inventories. This hands-on role involves managing labs and prep rooms and supervising student assistants to ensure facilities are organized and efficient. You will also serve as a key liaison for facilities maintenance technology repairs and the specialized handling of anatomical specimens in compliance with state regulations.

As Chemical Hygiene Officer you will oversee the full lifecycle of regulated substances -- from procurement to disposal -- ensuring strict adherence to legal requirements and safety audits. You will collaborate with administration to develop and refine chemical hygiene policies improve safety protocols and design adequate laboratory facilities. Additionally you will contribute to institutional oversight as a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee ensuring a culture of safety compliance and continuous improvement across all scientific programs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications/Education:

  • Completion of a bachelors degree in Biology Chemistry or related area. Some graduate coursework is preferred.
  • Experience managing scientific laboratory facilities and operating scientific equipment is required.
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred.
  • A primary interest in teaching and mentoring students at a liberal arts institution is a must.
  • A valid drivers license is required by the start date.
