GIBB Mining a subsidiary of the GIBB Group is looking for another talented professional to complement their team in the form of a Construction Safety Officer.

• Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of construction safety practices within mining and heavy industrial environments including hazard identification risk assessments and incident prevention.
• Regulatory Knowledge:Sound knowledge of MHSA OHSA and environmental legislation (NEMA) including practical application on site.
• Safety Management:Ability to develop implement and maintain project safety files in line with client requirements.
• Risk Management: Ability to identify assess and mitigate safety risks across all project phases.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills including report writing and engagement with contractors and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Develop implement and maintain the project safety file in line with client and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable health safety and environmental legislation (MHSA OHSA NEMA).
• Support construction readiness by preparing all required safety documentation ahead of site activities.
• Conduct risk assessments hazard identification studies and safety reviews.
• Review and approve contractor safety files method statements and risk assessments.
• Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections audits and safety walk-downs.
• Lead incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Maintain accurate safety records and reporting including statistics and compliance tracking.
• Facilitate safety meetings toolbox talks and awareness sessions.
• Promote and enforce a zero-harm safety culture across all project stakeholders.
• Interface with client safety representatives and ensure alignment with site requirements.
• Support onboarding and induction processes including ensuring all personnel meet site safety requirements.

Qualifications:

• National Diploma / Degree in Safety Management Environmental Health & Safety or related field
• SACPCMP registration (CHSO / ) preferred
• Relevant safety certifications (e.g. SAMTRAC) advantageous

Experience:

• Minimum 8 10 years experience in construction safety within mining or heavy industrial environments
• Experience working in EPC/EPCM projects
• Experience working in similar client environments advantageous

Knowledgeof:
