Student Recruitment and Retention Specialist

We are seeking a results-driven culturally-grounded contributor to help us honor the Indigenous Education Protocol and bridge the gap between NWP and our regional partners.

The Role

The Student Recruitment and Retention Specialist will serve as a primary ambassador for NWP with a dedicated focus on northern Indigenous communities and reserves. The heart of this role is relationship-building; you will travel extensively to meet with Band leaders community members and prospective students to foster trust and create pathways to post-secondary success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Indigenous Community Engagement: Travel frequently to northern reserves and regional communities to build sustainable relationships with Band councils and education coordinators.
  • Strategic Recruitment: Execute outreach strategies that align with NWPs commitment to reconciliation and the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to Action.
  • Student Advocacy: Serve as a knowledgeable guide for prospective Indigenous students navigating the recruitment process through a lens of cultural understanding.
  • Program Support: Collaborate with the Student Ambassador program and internal departments to ensure a supportive inclusive environment for all incoming students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with Indigenous Communities: Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with Indigenous communities with a deep understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing teaching and learning.
  • Cultural Competency: Strong knowledge of Indigenous cultures values and contemporary initiatives including the TRC Calls to Action.
  • Education & Experience: A Bachelors degree and one year of related experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered).
  • Mobility: A valid Class 5 Drivers License and a willingness to travel frequently to remote and regional locations.

Necessary Skills:

  • Engaging and confident presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across various organizational and community levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently while traveling.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a high level of professional integrity.
  • Asset:Experience with CRM systems (such as Microsoft Dynamics 365).

In addition to the above the following may also be an asset per assigned portfolio:

  • Experience of indigenous cultures and values and an understanding of contemporary initiatives and issues such as the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to Action.
  • An understanding of NWPs Indigenous Education Protocol.
  • An understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing teaching and learning.
  • Experience working collaboratively with indigenous communities and organizations.
