Job Summary
We are seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Neonatologist to join our academic division in a dedicated nocturnist role providing overnight in-house coverage for Level III and Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs).
This position combines high-acuity clinical care with opportunities for teaching mentorship and participation in academic initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for neonatologists seeking flexibility in their schedule.
Responsibilities
- Provide overnight in-house coverage for Level III and Level IV NICUs
- Manage critically ill neonates including extremely preterm infants and those requiring advanced life-sustaining therapies
- Attend and lead high-risk deliveries including complex maternal-fetal cases
- Perform neonatal resuscitation and oversee stabilization of critically ill newborns
- Direct management of advanced respiratory support including conventional and high-frequency ventilation
- Manage complex neonatal conditions requiring:
- Therapeutic hypothermia
- Inhaled nitric oxide
- Advanced hemodynamic monitoring
- Perform and supervise procedures (e.g. intubation UAC/UVC placement chest tubes)
- Supervise and teach residents fellows APPs
- Provide real-time bedside teaching and overnight clinical mentorship
- Ensure high-quality documentation and structured handoffs to daytime teams
- Collaborate with pediatric subspecialists including surgery cardiology neurology and genetics
Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited institution
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship
- Eligible for academic appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level (rank commensurate with experience) to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
- Active (or eligible for) New York State medical license
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

- Dedicated nocturnist schedule (set number of overnight shifts per year)
