POSITION SUMMARY
Summer Grounds Maintenance performs a full range of typical grounds maintenance duties such as: turf areas trees shrubs flowers athletic fields and playgrounds; application of fertilizer insecticide and fungicide as needed; maintains outdoor furniture and equipment; performs numerous other assignments as specified by management.
REPORTS TO: Grounds Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Facility Services
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. Lifting of 50 lbs. Is required on a regular basis.
- Knowledgeable in the use of commercial lawn care power equipment.
- Maintains trees using pruning shears and saws.
- Uses and maintains special power tools and equipment including; chain saws salt spreaders roto-tillers trenchers backhoes trucks forklifts tractors etc.
- Uses and maintains hand tools such as shovels rakes hoes brooms picks axes post-hole diggers hoses dollies wheelbarrows etc.
- Prepares soil by cultivating conditioning misting and applying fertilizers.
- Starts transplants and develops seedlings sod trees etc.
- Installs and maintains lawn irrigation systems.
- Performs hauling: such as; groceries band equipment choral risers athletic apparatus miscellaneous district equipment supplies and trash to the dump. Also hauls and moves furniture.
- Performs set-up for a variety of District functions such as graduation athletic events etc.
- Works in a changing environment such as hot or cold weather rain and snow.
- Works with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Perform safety inspections and repairs to playgrounds.
- Performs snow removal with shovels snow blowers and snow plows.
- Installs and maintains various types of fencing.
- Paints equipment floors walls etc.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education training and experience will be considered.
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- At least 1 year of experience is preferred.
- Must pass a physical examination and drug screen.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES May be representative but not all-inclusive of those knowledge skills and abilities commonly associated with the job.
- Requires ability to read and understand route instructions in written oral or diagrammatic form and identify material by label and written or computer listings.
- Requires ability to provide instruction to District employees.
- Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Requires ability to operate standard office and classroom equipment.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES Activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Required to occasionally move objects weighing up to 100 pounds around the workspace.
- Requires daily travel to multiple work sites within the District using reliable district-provided transportation.
- Climbs ladders and moves furniture as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions and building environments. Exposed to loud noise levels.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 8 hours per day
Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: A minimum of 1 year job-related experience is preferred.
Compensation: $18/hr
