POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Business Advisor Leadership and Management delivers standard and customized advisory mandates that help Canadian SMEs strengthen leadership effectiveness management discipline and execution performance. The role focuses on supporting entrepreneurs executives and management teams in designing and embedding practical management frameworks that clarify priorities strengthen accountability and improve how the business is run day to day.
Operating in diverse SME environments the Senior Business Advisor rapidly diagnoses leadership management and organizational challengessuch as unclear roles and decision rights misaligned priorities weak management routines and inconsistent executionand applies proven pragmatic management frameworks to drive tangible and sustainable improvement.
In contexts of growth transformation and increasing complexity the role supports leaders in establishing clear objectives performance indicators governance structures and operating rhythms that enable effective decisionmaking and coordinated action. Where relevant the Advisor also helps leadership teams thoughtfully integrate enabling tools including digital solutions and artificial intelligence (AI) into management practiceswhile reinforcing managerial accountability sound judgment and peoplecentred leadership.
The Senior Business Advisor leads advisory mandates endtoend serves as a trusted thought partner to client leadership teams supports sales efforts and contributes to the evolution of BDC Advisory Services leadership and management offerings.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Conduct executivelevel diagnostics to assess leadership effectiveness management practices organizational structure and execution discipline and translate findings into clear actionable advisory mandates.
Design and implement customized management frameworks including management routines governance structures performance indicators and decisionmaking processes aligned to business priorities.
Coach entrepreneurs executives and management teamsindividually and collectivelyto strengthen leadership behaviours role clarity accountability and execution effectiveness.
Support leadership teams in clarifying objectives priorities and roles and in redesigning organizational structures and management routines to reduce inefficiencies and duplication.
Lead advisory mandates focused on improving performance management operating rhythm and management communication through structured touchpoints and practical tools.
Provide handson support to leaders navigating business and organizational change (e.g. growth restructuring process or technology adoption) ensuring frameworks are adopted embedded and sustained.
Bring a pragmatic perspective on how digital tools and AI can enable management practicessuch as performance tracking decision support and workload prioritizationwithout replacing managerial ownership.
Manage advisory projects endtoend overseeing scope budget timelines and outcomes and ensuring deliverables are practical adopted and deliver measurable results.
Work closely with Client Partners to support needs assessment proposal development project delivery and identification of followon mandates.
Contribute to the continuous evolution of BDC Advisory Services through content development tools and knowledge sharing related to leadership and management best practices.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Bachelors degree in Business Administration Management Organizational Development or a related field.
More than 10 years of experience in management consulting or senior leadership roles with significant exposure to advising executive and management teams in SME environments.
Strong grounding in practical leadership and management frameworks including role clarity accountability performance management decisionmaking governance and organizational design.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex leadership and organizational challenges into pragmatic actionable solutions adapted to SME realities.
Proven credibility with entrepreneurs executives and senior leaders and the ability to facilitate alignment commitment and behavioural change.
Experience leading and delivering both standardized and customized advisory mandates in a professional services setting.
Strong business development capabilities including needs framing proposal contribution and opportunity development.
Interest in digital tools and AI as enablers of management effectiveness with the ability to discuss their implications in a clear nontechnical manner.
Excellent communication facilitation and influencing skills.
Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
