Job Summary
Nova Scotia Health (NSH) is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Site Specialty Lead for Hospitalists at the St. Marthas Regional Hospital in the Eastern Zone. Interested applicants are asked to apply by April 24th 2026.
Reporting to the Eastern Zone Department Head of Hospitalist Medicine and the Site Lead at St. Marthas Regional Hospital the Site Specialty Lead (Hospitalist Medicine) carries overall responsibility for the delivery of hospitalist clinical services at St. Marthas Regional Hospital in collaboration with the Department Head of Family Medicine.
Role Accountabilities
- Ensures that medical staff of the Department are compliant with the Bylaws and Rules and regulations of the NSH
- Brings forward issues and perspectives of Department Medical Staff at the applicable site to the Zone Executive Director and/or Zone Department Head for consideration and/or resolution
- Serves as Physician Lead for Emergency Preparedness activities
- Assists in managing site overcapacity issues from Departments perspective by being the point of contact for Department medical staff
- Ensures service continuity is maintained through Department scheduling practices including but not limited to establishing an equitable on-call schedule and approving and managing vacation
- Liaise with Zone Hospitalist Educational Lead to ensure that sufficient teaching coverage is provided by the SMRH
- When sufficient coverage not attainable notify Department Head. Early identification of predictable potential shortages is important as is prompt notification of unexpected/unpredictable shortages.
- Chairs regular department meetings and attends other committee meetings as required or assigned by the Zone Medical Executive Director or Zone Department Head
- Participation in the Zone Leadership Council to represent the SMRH perspective during allocation of ZSF funds at the zonal level
- Organization of regular SMRH hospitalist meetings to allocate ZSF funds at a site level
- Participates in the monitoring of standards quality and utilization of resources of the Department in the zone; including all the necessary reporting and auditing as required
- Completion of biweekly paysheets submitted to department head within 24 hours of the end of a paycycle
- Participates in any clinical services planning for the Department
- Participates in respectful workplace responsibilities as needed in conjunction with relevant Department Head
- Participates in recruitment/retention activities for the Department; this includes providing an up-to-date roster of Department medical staff
- Participates in new hire and onboarding processes as needed in conjunction with the Department Head
- Participates in Leadership development and shows a commitment to lifelong learning and acquisition and refinement of leadership capabilities
- Leads the incident review process for the site in liaison with Quality and Patient Safety representatives including all required family meetings
Qualifications :
- MD licensed in Nova Scotia and privileged with Nova Scotia Health
- Evidence of past and ongoing leadership training.
