Job Summary
The Distribution Officer supports the universitys mail courier and materials distribution operations. This position is responsible for receiving processing and delivering mail parcels and materials; coordinating shipping and receiving; maintaining inventory and storage areas; and ensuring safe and efficient logistics across campus. The role also contributes to workplace safety recordkeeping and operational coordination within the Materials Distribution Centre (MDC).
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receives unpacks checks and stores incoming materials ensuring that goods are delivered according to specifications; completes documentation such as signing delivery slips and performs data entry for goods received.
- Picks packages ships receives and shelves course materials and processes any returned course packages.
- Receives sorts and processes incoming mail parcels and packages.
- Communicates and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders on shipping/receiving/inventory/storage matters.
- Delivers and picks up mail parcels and packages across campus.
- Delivers goods materials and equipment received at the MDC to end users across campus.
- Manages outbound mail and courier shipments selecting the most efficient and cost-effective methods.
- Maintains warehouse inventory and completes physical inventory counts.
- Coordinates operating logistics for TRU Reuse site.
- Coordinates pick-up delivery loading and unloading of assets for disposal or short-term and long-term storage.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records statistics and related documentation.
- Maintains an organized and safe work environment through regular housekeeping such as cleaning sweeping and maintaining orderly documents and equipment etc.
- Inspects MDC equipment and vehicles and performs basic maintenance; provides input to the preventive maintenance plan.
- Supports team capability by providing cross-training to peers.

Requirements
EDUCATION:
- Grade 12 plus 6 months post-secondary education in specialized courses or training in warehouse operations or a related field
- Current Forklift Reach Truck Narrow Aisle Picker Powered Pallet Truck Certification
- Current Fall Restraint Certification Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certification
- Class 5 drivers license
EXPERIENCE:
- Four years related experience in a computerized warehousing environment
SKILLS KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
- Ability to plan and coordinate warehouse logistics with clients and stakeholders
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients and stakeholders
- High level organization skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Ability to operate related equipment such as a forklift and delivery truck
- Intermediate knowledge of electronic receiving inventory storage and shipping systems
- Demonstrated ability to be progressive and innovative in material handling activities
- Ability to lift boxes up to 34 kg
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Exposed to heat and cold with the seasons
- Some dangerous goods dust/dirty conditions and fumes from equipment (trucks forklifts)
- Standing and heavy lifting up to 2 hours
