Description

The Fire Marshal works under the direct supervision of the Security & Emergency Services (SES) Branch Head in support of the Commander BASE SUPPORT GROUP (BSG).

The Fire Marshal is a professional responsible for ensuring that buildings and other structures comply with fire safety regulations and codes. This includes conducting regular inspections of buildings to identify potential fire hazards and ensuring that fire safety equipment is properly installed and maintained.

The Fire Marshal also plays a critical role in educating the public about fire safety including providing training and presentations to building owners and occupants.

The Fire Marshal works closely with other fire and safety officials including firefighters and building inspectors to ensure that buildings are safe and that emergency response plans are in place in case of a fire.

The Fire Marshal plays a critical role in protecting life and property from the dangers of fire.

Responsibilities

Advice COM BSG via the Chain of Command (CoC) of fire safety issues.

Ensure the implementation of Host Nation (HN) legislation with respect to fire safety prevention and procedures or higher regulations.

Direct develop coordinate and oversee fire prevention and education policy.

Provide technical advice and recommendations to improve fire prevention to COM BSG via CoC.

Coordinate as required with the lnfrastructure Storage and Supply (lSS) Branch Head the inspection of all electrical and mechanical systems within their area of responsibility to ensure that they meet applicable fire safety standards in accordance with the regulations.

Advise the Branch Head SES on the technical aspects of electrical and mechanical systems in their area of responsibility with respect to fire safety.

Manage assignments and maps that display normal and emergency evacuation routes exits and assembly areas in coordination with the Zone Hainaut Centre (ZHC).

Supervise the Chief Fire Protection.

Manage maintenance contracts for automatic fire detection and extinguishing systems.

Coordinate the annual training of Fire Safety Officers and their alternates.

Analyze Fire Safety Quarterly Reports and take action to resolve reported issues.

Provide specialized advice on the fire safety aspects of an event.

Establish supervise evaluate and advise during fire drills conducted at all SHAPE facilities.

Organize fire prevention courses for SHAPE lnternational Schools (SlS) Scouting Groups and/or other public service organizations operating on SHAPE on request.

Conduct fire incident investigations in coordination with the lnternational Military Police (lMP) and if necessary the SHAPE Federal Police (SFP).

Maintain a list of all fire safety officers and their alternates.

lnform the Standing Fire Prevention Force (DPPP) Hainaut Centre Emergency Zone (ZHC).

Coordinate and plan the fire response and evacuation exercises for SHAPE FPS ZHC Dispositive Pompier Permanent Preventive (DPPP) Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Mons Planning Urgencies Mons (PLANU) Security Guard (SG) lnternational Military Police (IMP) SHAPE Federal police (SFP) Fire Warden (FW).

Can be asked to perform additional duties beyond the primary responsibilities as listed above.

The role can require to be available for work outside the normal hours regardless of whether the incumbent are actually called into work.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in Fire Science Chemistry Engineering or a related field.

Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in fire prevention and protection such as for example firefighter fire investigator fire safety inspector or hazardous materials advisor preferably in a leading role.

Certification as a Fire Inspector 1 2 and 3 or the ability to obtain within first 2 years of employment (provided the training courses were started within the first 2 years of employment this requirement can be extended after CHRM approval).

Fire Prevention 1 2 and 3 or the ability to obtain within first 2 years of employment (provided the training courses were started within the first 2 years of employment this requirement can be extended after CHRM approval).

CP 2 Health and Safety Certification or the ability to obtain within first 2 years of employment (provided the training courses were started within the first 2 years of employment this requirement can be extended after CHRM approval).

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.

Excellent organizational skills critical thinking and attention to detail.

Strong knowledge of fire prevention and protection principles codes and regulations.

Language requirement: English: 3232; French: 3232.
