Introduction

LUCA School of Arts is a creative hub for almost 5000 people: more than 4000 students and 800 colleagues. LUCA offers them an educational and research environment to further develop their creative talent. We do this by offering higher education in the broad domain of the arts and through artistic research embedded within an associated Faculty of Arts at KU Leuven. In the context of the expertise network Artistic Practices to be appointed within the team Music Performance (Leuven) LUCA is looking for a skilled and flexible piano accompanist for the Music Performance team to support students in their artistic development and assist them during classes rehearsals and exams. The accompanist will contribute to a stimulating learning environment work closely with colleagues and students and be involved in ensemble projects.

The proposed starting date is 1 September 2026.

Key responsibilities

Your assignment includes tasks within LUCA Music & Drama and LUCA Graduate. These are mainly situated within the Music programme (Leuven campus).

The primary responsibility will be to accompany students at the piano within the Bachelors and Masters degree programmes in Music during lessons master classes rehearsals internal auditions examinations and concerts mainly within the instrumental and vocal departments with a primary focus on classical music.

You support students in the preparation of repertoire for lessons examinations auditions competitions recordings and public performances. You will collaborate closely with professors and students in ensemble settings and contribute to artistic projects project weeks and concerts organized by the department.

You are an experienced collaborative musician who contributes actively to the artistic development of students by providing stylistically informed musical partnership strong ensemble skills and practical support in the rehearsal process. Flexibility reliability and the ability to work efficiently in a variety of musical contexts are essential.

You foster a positive and dynamic artistic working environment and collaborate constructively with professors accompanists and students. Through this role you contribute to the training of creative versatile and entrepreneurial musicians.

You also actively contribute to the quality of the program and you are an ambassador for LUCA with regard to prospective students and alumni.

Research and artistic research activities societal engagement and internal service are also part of the mission as well as professionalization and international networking.

Profile

• You hold a Masters degree in piano or piano accompaniment or an equivalent qualification;
• You have extensive experience as a collaborative pianist / piano accompanist;
• You have experience accompanying instrumentalists in a broad range of repertoire and styles;
• You demonstrate excellent sight-reading skills and the ability to learn repertoire quickly;
• You possess strong ensemble awareness musical flexibility and excellent communication skills;
• You combine artistic excellence with sensitivity to the needs of students and teachers;
• You preferably have experience working in higher music education;
• You are able to work efficiently in rehearsal contexts and adapt quickly to different musical situations;
• You are comfortable working with students at Bachelors and Masters level;
• You are a team player who collaborates constructively with colleagues;
• You have experience in or are willing to engage in interdisciplinary artistic projects;

You have social and educational skills you are collegial and communicative and motivated to continuously develop your expertise. You act respectfully and with integrity in line with LUCAs code of conduct.

Offer

This vacancy is for a statutory appointment of indefinite duration for 60% position with the rank of praktijkassistent (OP2) at LUCA School of Arts. A tenured position can be applied for in due course.
