We are looking for a Head of People and Culture Japan who is strategic collaborative and peoplecentered to join our People team based in our Tokyo office in Japan.

You will serve as the strategic people partner to the Japan leadership team aligning people strategies with business priorities to strengthen capabilities accelerate growth and elevate engagement. The role will focus on end-to-end local HR management partnering closely with stakeholders to deliver impactful HR solutions tailored to the Japanese market and business context driving organizational change building leadership effectiveness stewarding culture connecting local needs with global initiatives and ensuring full compliance with Japanese employment regulations.

You will be working in a team that partners closely with Japans leadership learning and talent development colleagues talent acquisition and people operations. You will collaborate across local regional and global teams to design practical solutions for Japan share market insights and deliver consistent valuesaligned experiences across the employee lifecycle. You will also coach leaders and work with people managers and key stakeholders to build skills grow careers and enhance engagement across all levels.

  • Work as strategic talent Partner for all people and organizational decisions. This includes aligning local Talent priorities and agendas with business goals and leading the development and implementation Talent plans/initiatives in collaboration with Local leadership team to strengthen key capabilities.
  • Lead and support organizational change within UCB Japan prioritizing time and resources on the most impactful HR interventions: fostering cultural consistency aligned with company values driving effective change management tailored to local teams enhancing leadership capabilities developing and retaining critical local talent and improving employee engagement across all levels of UCB Japan.
  • Partner with Learning and Talent Development Team as well as local stakeholders to design and deliver development activities and enable the ongoing growth of leadership teams.
  • Lead the staffing of key local positions in partnership with UCB Japans Talent Acquisition team and local hiring managers promoting internal mobility to leverage existing talent.
  • Oversee the effective management of the entire employee lifecycle and employee relations matters specific to UCB Japan.
  • Serve as a core member of UCBs global and regional strategic Talent projects leveraging the deep understanding of Japans business landscape local leadership needs and market nuances to share actionable insights on real local business needs.
  • Act as Role model of companys Leadership Value Principles.

  • Inspires and motivates teams to drive value fostering an accountable culture aligned with local workplace norms.
  • Demonstrates deep expertise in Japans local HR policies labour legal requirements andlocal talent market insights to ensure HR practices comply with local regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English.
  • Proficient in leveraging HR systems/technology ensuring data quality and using analytics to support local HR decision-making.
  • International or oversea work experience is a strong plus
  • Experience in Life Sciences or Healthcare Industry is a plus.
