Project: Data Center Co-location and Migration Project

Project Overview:

NYC DSS is undertaking a large-scale Data Center Co-location and Migration Project to modernize its IT infrastructure.

Approximately 90% of current data center infrastructure is reaching End-of-Life (EOL) / End-of-Support (EOS)

Migration from 15 MetroTech Center to 11 MetroTech (Brooklyn NY)

Consolidation of multiple data centers into a single co-location facility

Focus on:

Infrastructure modernization
Risk mitigation
Improved system reliability and performance
This project is critical to DSS operations supporting applications used for:
Public assistance
Housing and shelter services
Benefits distribution systems

Key Responsibilities

Lead comprehensive application discovery and technical assessments across frontend backend databases middleware and APIs.
Evaluate legacy systems and define strategies for modernization refactoring and cloud migration.
Architect and implement containerization solutions using Docker and Kubernetes enabling cloud-native application designs.
Design build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated testing integration and deployment.
Drive the transformation of monolithic applications into microservices-based architectures where applicable.
Develop and implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms including OAuth2 SAML and IAM roles.
Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform Ansible or CloudFormation for scalable and repeatable deployments.
Oversee database migrations performance optimization and transitions to cloud-based storage solutions.
Implement monitoring logging and observability frameworks (e.g. ELK stack CloudWatch Datadog).
Lead go-live activities provide troubleshooting support and ensure production stabilization.
Collaborate closely with Infrastructure Security QA and Operations teams to deliver secure compliant and high-performing solutions.
Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical standards governance and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong experience in application architecture system design and cloud migration projects.
Hands-on expertise with containerization technologies (Docker Kubernetes).
Proficiency in CI/CD tools and DevOps practices.
Experience with microservices architecture and API-driven development.
Knowledge of authentication/authorization frameworks (OAuth2 SAML IAM).
Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform Ansible or CloudFormation.
Strong understanding of database technologies and migration strategies.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools (ELK CloudWatch Datadog).
Familiarity with major cloud platforms (AWS Azure or Google Cloud).
Excellent problem-solving communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in large-scale digital transformation programs.
Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
Knowledge of security best practices and compliance frameworks.
Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments.
