Job Summary

Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced iSeries Systems Architect to lead the design implementation and optimization of our IBM i (AS400/iSeries/System i) infrastructure. This role is essential to ensuring the reliability scalability and security of our enterprise systems. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in IBM i and IBM Power Systems environments along with a strategic mindset to align infrastructure with evolving business goals.

Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

Design and maintain scalable secure and high-performance IBM i system architectures.

Develop infrastructure strategies that support business continuity disaster recovery and future growth.

Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to the IBM i platform.

System Management

Install configure and maintain IBM i operating systems.

Manage OS upgrades PTFs and hardware refresh cycles.

Monitor and oversee system performance capacity planning and tuning.

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues.

Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures using BRMS.

Ensure high availability and reliability of IBM i systems.

Plan organize and implement technical projects.

Security & Compliance

Implement and maintain security policies user access controls and audit procedures.

Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. SOX PCI Gaming Control Boards).

Automation & Scripting

Develop and maintain scripts for system and storage administration using CL and SQL.

Utilize configuration management tools such as PM400 and iNavigator.

Collaboration & Leadership

Collaborate with application development network and security teams to ensure seamless integration.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff.

Serve as a subject matter expert for IBM i-related projects and initiatives.

Provide technical support to developers platform administrators and other teams.

Diagnose and resolve complex system and storage issues.

Participate in after-hours system deployments and maintenance.

Participate in on-call rotation.

Documentation & Reporting

Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations procedures and policies.

Generate reports on system health performance and usage metrics.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience).

5 years of experience working with IBM i systems in an enterprise environment.

Proven experience in IBM i system architecture performance tuning and capacity planning.

Strong knowledge of IBM i operating system CL programming SQL and DB2 for i.

Familiarity with Power Systems hardware and virtualization (PowerVM HMC).

Experience with backup/recovery solutions and high availability (HA) technologies.

Experience with automation and monitoring tools.

Understanding of network concepts and protocols.

Excellent problem-solving communication and project management skills.

Preferred Skills

Previous experience with Mimix replication.

Experience with BRMS.

Experience with Robot Monitoring Tools.

Familiarity with best practices in IBM i environments.

Knowledge of modern integration techniques (e.g. APIs web services) with IBM i.
