The Section 504 Coordinator ensures district compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) rules governing student services. The Coordinator oversees the development implementation and monitoring of Section 504 processes to ensure that eligible students receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) through the provision of appropriate accommodations and supports.
Essential Functions
Serve as the districts designated Section 504 and ADA compliance coordinator
Ensure implementation of policies and procedures consistent with federal law and Arkansas DESE regulations
Support 504 building coordinators in coordination of the referral evaluation eligibility determination and placement process for students suspected of having a disability under Section 504
Support and monitor timely development review and revision of Section 504 Plans in accordance with regulatory timelines
Train and monitor implementation of accommodations and supports to ensure fidelity across all district campuses
Provide technical assistance and guidance to administrators counselors teachers and other staff regarding Section 504 compliance
Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with FERPA and district policy and procedures
Facilitate or support Section 504 meetings including manifestation determinations when applicable.
Coordinate procedural safeguards including parent/guardian rights notifications and due process procedures
Investigate complaints and assist in resolution of grievances related to Section 504 and ADA compliance and coordinate with FPS Cabinet members toward resolution
Collaborate with special education English Learner services school health services and other programs to ensure coordinated support for students
Provide ongoing professional development to district staff regarding Section 504 ADA and related compliance requirements
Monitor district practices to ensure equitable access to programs services and extracurricular activities
Stay current with changes in federal and state law DESE guidance and best practice
Provide reports and data to building staff the Executive Director of Student Services the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning and the FPS General Counsel as needed
Provide support to the Student Services department as needed including Central Registration
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Section 504 ADA FERPA and applicable Arkansas DESE rules and guidance
Understanding of student evaluation procedures accommodations and intervention strategies
Ability to interpret and apply legal and regulatory requirements
Strong organizational data management and documentation skills
Effective communication and collaboration skills with diverse stakeholders
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet timelines
Skill in conflict resolution and problem-solving
Proficiency in standard office software and student information systems
Minimum Qualifications
Degree in education educational leadership or related field
Valid Arkansas educator or administrator license
Experience in education student services or a related field
Experience with Section 504 IDEA or student support services at the campus or district level
Terms of Employment
Salary and workday calendar as established by the Fayetteville Board of Education and FPS direct supervisor
Performance evaluated in accordance with district policy and administrative guidelines
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office and school environment
Requires regular travel between district campuses
Occasional evening or extended hours may be required
