Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno College of Liberal Arts is recruiting for a Manager Sculpture Laboratory. This position is part-time (20 hrs/wk). This position manages all general laboratory operations and maintenance of sculpture facilities and storage areas. The position is also responsible for supervision serves as the safety manager and has fiscal addition the incumbent provides instruction and support to the students.

Key responsibilities include:

Academic Instructional Support

  • Conduct classroom and individual technical demonstrations as requested by faculty (in class and during Open Lab hours).

  • Provide academic faculty/instructors in-class support to ensure students follow safe and proper studio procedures and understand the safe and proper use of materials and equipment.

  • Provide one on one instructional support to advanced degree (BFA and MFA) students to ensure proper use of materials and procedures in the lab during specific lab hours.

Safety

  • Instruct/train students faculty and staff in safe operations and use of tools/equipment and materials.

  • Supervise and oversee studio operations and use by undergraduate and graduate students faculty and staff members. Ensure studio occupants/participants follow safe and proper studio procedures and understand the safe and proper use of equipment.

  • Exercise authority to enforce safety rules and regulations and halt unsafe operations at any time

  • Maintain and oversee a clean organized and safe working environment.

Budget Inventory and Purchasing

  • Monitor and manage sculpture area budgets (operating lab fees and sales accounts).

  • Maintain active inventory of all supplies tools and equipment.

  • Make purchases and maintain invoices/ receipts/ records with the Department of Art Administrative Assistant.

  • Pick up and/or arrange deliveries of supplies tools and equipment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors Degree and one year of related work experience; OR a Masters Degree and no related work experience

Related experience:Experience in a similar laboratory/workshop

Certification or licensures required

Valid Drivers License with ability to drive a cargo van/truck

Within 6 months of hire must be able to obtain the following:

  • Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift Operator)

  • OSHA-30

  • Defensive Driving

  • First Aid/CPR

  • Fire Safety Training

Department Information

The Department of Art Art History & Design at the Universityof Nevada Reno offers a B.A. and a minor in Art History as well as undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a range of fine art emphases including Book Arts Ceramics Digital Media Drawing Graphic Arts Painting Photography Printmaking and Sculpture.
