Job Summary
The RN Clinic Protime provides specialized nursing services for patients receiving anticoagulation therapy supporting safe monitoring and timely dose adjustments in accordance with established clinical protocols. This role performs focused patient assessments conducts point-of-care INR testing and communicates results and care instructions to promote effective management of clotting disorders. Working collaboratively with providers and clinic team members the RN helps coordinate treatment plans ensure accurate documentation and deliver clear patient education related to medication adherence and safety. As part of a supportive team-based clinic environment this position promotes high-quality outcomes through vigilant monitoring patient coaching and adherence to Trinity Health standards for anticoagulation management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform point-of-care INR testing assess patient status and follow established protocols to determine appropriate anticoagulation adjustments in consultation with providers.
- Document test results assessments and care instructions accurately in the electronic health record to ensure continuity and regulatory compliance.
- Educate patients and families on anticoagulation safety dietary considerations medication adherence bleeding precautions and when to seek medical care.
- Coordinate follow-up testing provider communication and referrals to support safe ongoing management of anticoagulation therapy.
- Collaborate with physicians pharmacists and interdisciplinary team members to address complex cases clarify treatment plans and support safe transitions of care.
- Participate in quality initiatives maintain competency in anticoagulation management and complete required anticoagulation certification within designated timelines.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure.
- CPR certification required within orientation period.
Educational Requirements:
- RN program as evidenced by licensure.
- Prefer BSN with knowledge base and clinical expertise in anticoagulation.
- Mandatory certification in anticoagulation therapy required within 6 months of hire.
Experience Requirements:
- Prefer four years of RN experience in Medical/surgical.
- Prefer four years of RN experience in Clinic Internal Medicine.

Physical Requirements:
The RN Clinic Protime frequently stands walks and moves between testing stations and exam rooms while supporting anticoagulation monitoring activities. The role requires bending reaching and lifting or carrying supplies and point-of-care equipment. Adequate vision hearing and manual dexterity are essential for performing finger-stick testing documenting results and safely carrying out patient assessments.
Environmental Requirements:
Work occurs in an outpatient clinical environment with routine exposure to patients receiving treatment for chronic medical conditions. Duties may involve handling blood samples using disinfectants and following strict infection-control and PPE protocols. The pace may fluctuate with patient volume and testing requirements requiring attention to detail safety confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
