Purpose:Plan and provide speech therapy for students with a variety of communication disorders (fluency articulation voice pragmatics and language). Collect data on all goals and assist in writing goals PLAAFP and progress reports.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors degree in communication disorders/speech pathology from an accredited university
- Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathology assistant granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) required
- Valid Texas Drivers License Auto Liability Insurance (must show proof) and a clean driving record
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of therapy strategies to address a variety of communication disorders
- Knowledge of and ability to implement strategies to address student behavior
- Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with others and have strong organizational skills
- Bilingual and biliterate proficiency required
Experience:
- Experience in public schools preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assessment and Therapy
- Plan for and implement Individual Education Plans for students as determined by the ARD/IEP Committee.
- Take consistent and accurate data on IEP goals during therapy sessions and report data to the SLP for progress reports. Assist with progress reports and PLAAFP development.
- Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and assist the SLP with evaluations as needed.
- Complete all needed documentation of SHARS billable services weekly.
Consultation
- Consult with colleagues students and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals the needs of the student and involvement in remedial process.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities and assistive technology to improve communication skills of students.
- Assist with providing professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and work more effectively with students with communication deficits.
- Provide information and support to parents when appropriate.
- Interact with other agencies when appropriate.
- Serve as a resource to the campus staff in the area of communication and speech collaborate with classroom teachers to implement effective services for student.
Student Management
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.
- Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Program Management
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and collaborate with supervising SLP to make changes based on the findings.
- Participate in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
- Enter and maintain all digital reports records and other documents including the Texas license within the scope of practice of an Assistant Speech Pathologist and as required by local state and federal guidelines.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws State Board of Education rule and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
Other
- Attend all meetings as requested by the speech coordinator.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising SLP and speech coordinator
Bilingual Stipend The bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant receives the stipend for performing duties that require bilingual and biliterate proficiency beyond those of a monolingual Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant. Responsibilities in both English and the target language include:
- Providing therapy in the native language.
- Communicating the special education process effectively with families in their preferred language and/or supporting school-based team members in delivering consistent high-quality information. This may include:
- Assisting the Speech-Language Pathologist during an evaluation by providing interpretation.
- Delivering interpretation support for conversations related to student progress and/or recommended services enabling parent to make informed decisions in partnership with the district.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of Speech-Language Pathologist.

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
