Job Summary
The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking a dedicated professional for the role of Area Director to serve as a cornerstone of the student this full-time 12-month live-in position you will be the operational and developmental heart of our residential communities providing student-centered support interpersonal development and community-building programming. As a key member of the Student Life staff you will mentor and supervise a team of Community Assistants manage campus life operations and advocate for an inclusive and thriving environment for over 300 residents.
Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant the anticipated annual salary for this position is up to $45300 plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefitsinclude medical dental vision and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Residential Leadership: Oversee a residential area consisting of multiple residence halls and over 300 residents.
- Staff Supervision: Direct and support staff Community Assistants (CAs) in their duties regarding community development student support policy enforcement and administration.
- Student Development: Act as a leader in the success of interest-based and learning communities within assigned halls.
- Conflict & Conduct Management: Serve as the primary conduct officer for common violations and manage interpersonal development and conflict resolution within the halls.
- Crisis Response: Participate in the on-call duty rotation and manage emergency and crisis situations.
- Community Building: Advise the Residence Hall Council and participate in staff selection training and campus-wide programming.
- Administrative Oversight: Represent the department on university committees and monitor the programming budget for your specific residential areas.
- Communication: Excellent oral written and interpersonal skills.
- Teamwork: Proven ability to work effectively at all levels of the institution including with students faculty and staff.
- Collaborative Spirit: Strong ability to work both as an individual contributor and as a productive member of a team.
- Planning & Prioritizing: Expert at organizing work to manage time effectively ensuring optimal productivity in the role.
- Technology Utilization: High level of computer literacy specifically with Microsoft Office 365 and presentation software.
- Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to maintain strict adherence to confidentiality standards.
- Education: Bachelors degree in Psychology Sociology Human Development Management Pubic Health Public Administration Education Leadership or any related fields.
- Experience: One (1) to three (3) years of professional experience in Residence Life within a college or university setting.
- Advanced Education: Masters degree in Higher Education Leadership Psychology or other related fields.
- Experience: Understanding of applied student development theory and knowledge of legal issues in higher education.
- Crisis Management: Previous experience specifically managing crisis situations.
The University of Maine at Farmington employees are Mandatory Reporters with the exception of UMFs licensed clinical medical providers (including athletic trainers) and mental health providers and their clinical interns when working in their capacity as providers.
