Age Specific Responsibility

Summary
The COTA Team primarily fulfills Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) responsibilities while alsoserveas a resource for the team andproviding administrative support to the Rehab Therapy Manager. Duties include scheduling answering phone calls andassistingwith departmental operations. Under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist the team delivers occupational therapy services as assigned. Membersmaintainand enhance treatment skillsthrough continuing education evidence-based practice and program development. All responsibilities are performed in alignment with the programs strategicobjectivesand organizationalgoals.

Maintainsa basic understanding of all COTA duties and responsibilities.
Encouragesopen communication and teamwork within the department and with other work areas.
Supportspositive working relationships with team members other departments and external partners as needed.
Assistsin addressing customer service concerns and follow up as directed by leadership.
Helpsidentifyand resolve routine problems; share information and work with others to find solutions.
Providesclerical support andassistwith phone calls to help reduce patient concerns when needed.
Assistswith creating staff and patient schedules as directed.
supdates on new processes policies or procedures from leadership; help staff understand changes and complete required steps. Provide feedback to the Rehab Therapy Manager as needed.

Staff will provide patient care treatment and services within the scope of their license certification or registration and as required by law and regulation.

Assistsoccupational therapist in treatment planning and conducting evaluation procedures.
Assiststhe occupational therapist in treating patientsutilizingmodalities therapeutic exercise assistive devices and functional activities.
Provides verbal and/or written feedback to primary occupational therapistregardingall significant observations or changes in the patients condition reaction and response to treatment.
Aids the occupational therapist in estimating equipment and supply needs and mayparticipatein the acquisition and inventory of these items.
Provides coverage of patients in the absence of other staff.
Documentspatients status and progress according toestablishedinternal/external time standards and adherence to reimbursement guidelines. (Q)
Communicates with otherappropriate peopleto integrate OT treatment as necessary or as directed. (Q S)
Participates in educationalprogramfor patientspatientsfamilies and health care workersregardingtreatment procedures functional activities and home programs.

Essential Job Qualifications
Graduateofan accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
Licensure with the State of Michigan.
The physical ability to lift position and transport patients with physical impairments.
Possesses and maintains BLS certification to meet department/program protocol.
