Job Summary

The Department of Biostatistics at the University of Washington has an outstanding opportunity for a postdoctoral scholar. The postdoctoral scholar will develop statistical machine learning and artificial intelligence methods (ML/AI) for diverse biological data in relation to cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. The specific areas of methodological research can be flexible depending on the candidates interests and skills.

The postdoctoral scholar will be supervised by and work closely with Drs. Ali Shojaie ( and James Floyd ( Dr. Shojaie is Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Biostatistics. He has extensive expertise in statistical machine learning analysis of high-dimensional networks and integrative analysis of complex biological data including big omics data. Dr. Floyd is Co-Director of the UW Cardiovascular Health Research Unit (CHRU) ( where he leads a broad portfolio of research that encompasses the discovery of new molecular targets for cardiovascular disease prevention and the application of ML/AI approaches to cardiovascular imaging and other data for improved disease detection and screening.

This is a full-time (100% FTE) 12-month/year position with an initial appointment length of one year and the possibility of renewal. The preferred start date is September 1 2026 but the date is negotiable. Salary for this position ranges from $68460/year ($5705/month) to $84240/year ($7020/month) with benefits and is commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.



Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent in Biostatistics Statistics Computer Science or related fields;
  • strong methodological/theoretical skills and expertise in ML/AI;
  • excellent written and oral communications and programming skills.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience working in cardiovascular health;
  • Experience working with neurodegenerative diseases.
