Cambridge Rindge & Latin School is one of the most diverse public high schools in Massachusetts representing more than 83 countries and a wide range of cultural linguistic and lived experiences. Within this vibrant community students engage in a challenging rigorous and supportive learning environment that prepares them for postsecondary success and meaningful participation in a just society.
The school is organized into four Learning CommunitiesC R L and Seach serving approximately 500 students. Students remain in the same Learning Community throughout high school enabling strong sustained relationships with their Dean Guidance Counselor Social Worker School Psychologist and Clerk. These communities provide a smaller academic home where students can access personalized support encouragement and guidance.
CRLS operates on a 4x4 Block Schedule consisting of four 85-minute periods per day. This model:
- Deepens active learning and instructional engagement
- Offers opportunities to double up on courses in the same year
- Reduces nightly course load and materials
- Provides flexibility for sequential coursework including up to six levels of Spanish and French and multi-course pathways in Arabic Mandarin Latin and American Sign Language
The CRLS course catalogue reflects extraordinary breadth including offerings such as Computer Science African American History Leadership & Community Action Robotics Oceanography Modern Dance Company Digital Film & TV Production Statistics & Probability Psychology & Literature and Advanced Acting and Directing.
Additionally CRLS houses the Rindge School of Technical Arts (RSTA) a comprehensive career and technical education program and the High School Extension Program (HSEP) a smaller non-traditional high school option located nearby at 359 Broadway.

The Opportunity:
The Principal of Cambridge Rindge & Latin School is the instructional cultural and operational leader of the school. This leader is responsible for ensuring that CRLS provides a rigorous inclusive and student-centered learning environment where every student is known valued challenged and supported.
Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education the Principal leads the implementation of the CRLS mission oversees school improvement planning strengthens academic and social-emotional systems supervises all educators and school staff and ensures alignment with district goals and strategic priorities.
The Principal fosters a culture of belonging and high expectations builds strong and reciprocal partnerships with families and community organizations and ensures that CRLS remains a place where students can explore their identities pursue their interests and prepare for a wide range of postsecondary pathways.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership
- Set a clear and compelling vision for high-quality instruction active learning and equitable academic outcomes across all classrooms and programs.
- Lead development implementation and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan aligned with district goals.
- Oversee curriculum instruction assessment and interventions to support diverse learning needs and promote college career and civic readiness.
- Conduct frequent classroom observations with curriculum leaders to provide coaching feedback and instructional support.
- Ensure implementation of district state and federal instructional expectations including those aligned to inclusive and culturally responsive practice.
Supervision Talent Development & Professional Culture
- Recruit hire supervise evaluate and develop a diverse and mission-aligned team of educators and staff.
- Uphold state and district Educator Evaluation Standards with fidelity and clarity.
- Build a collaborative professional culture grounded in equity continuous improvement innovation and reflective practice.
- Lead professional development aligned to school and district priorities including inclusive instruction anti-racist practices and data-informed teaching.
- Coach and develop Assistant Principals and instructional leaders to strengthen school wide leadership capacity.
School Culture Inclusion & Belonging
- Establish and lead a positive school culture grounded in the core values of Opportunity Diversity and Respect.
- Ensure that Learning Communities serve as safe supportive and consistent environments where all students experience strong adult relationships and belonging.
- Lead implementation of positive behavioral interventions restorative practices and equitable discipline systems.
- Ensure robust communication and engagement structures that welcome student and family voices.
- Model and promote a culture that honors CRLSs diversity and affirms every students identity and lived experience.
Operations Management & Compliance
- Manage the school budget ensuring alignment with instructional needs and strategic priorities.
- Oversee building operations including safety facilities custodial services food services and emergency procedures.
- Ensure timely completion of all required reports documentation state-mandated protocols and data submissions.
- Oversee scheduling structuresincluding the 4x4 Block Schedulecourse assignments student placement and academic programming.
- Collaborate with district departments to support special education services 504 plans English Learner supports and mental health services.
Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong reciprocal partnerships with families grounded in transparency communication and shared responsibility for student success.
- Work collaboratively with the School Council parent/caregiver organizations and community partners to strengthen school programs and supports.
- Represent CRLS in district city and community forums to advance student opportunities and connections.
Collaboration & District Leadership
- Collaborate closely with the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education to implement district priorities and ensure alignment across secondary schools.
- Participate in district leadership meetings and cross-functional initiatives as appropriate.
- Provide regular updates on school progress needs emerging issues and opportunities for improvement.

- Minimum five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the middle or high school level; leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Success working in an urban setting with diverse racial ethnic linguistic and socioeconomic communities.
- Massachusetts DESE Principal/Assistant Principal licensure or eligibility required.
- Demonstrated success in school leadership instructional improvement and building inclusive school cultures.
Terms of Employment: This is a full-time in-person exempt position with a 222-day work year. The role requires flexibility including frequent evening and weekend commitments to fulfill job responsibilities. As an exempt employee this position is not eligible for overtime compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
