Job Summary
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This positionis responsible forthe following:Other duties may be assigned.
Must have basic knowledge of ships and barges and also must have own basic outside machinist tools.
Must be able tounderstand and performthedisassembly repair andreassembly ofthe following using safe rigging and handling practices:
Steam Turbines
Centrifugal Pumps
Reciprocating and Vertical Pumps
Gear Boxes
Marine drive trains
Align machines and equipment to specified tolerances with minimal supervisionusing hoists jacks hand tools squares rulesmicrometersand indicators.
Lay out drill and tapmounting holes using measuring instruments
Level bedplatesandestablishcenterline using straightedge levels and transit.
Fit bushings sleeves rings liners gears and wheels to specifiedcomponents usinginterferencefitby means ofpressing orportable gas heating equipmentand/or cryogenics.
Use precision measuring instruments to make measurements within specified tolerances.
Writecondition reportsfor each job performed.
Required Education & Experience:
High School Diploma and/or one year certificate from college or technical school preferred.
Industrial and/or marineequipment repairexperience:
1stClass:3-5 years
2ndClass:1-3 years
Working Conditions:
Open-air conditions such as noisy hot cold etc.
Mustwear hearing eye and head protection.
Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.
Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.
Aboard ships both on and offshore.
Some travelisrequired.
Necessary Equipment Operation:
Micrometer
Feeler Gauges
Hydraulic Power units.
Rigging
Power Tools
Hydraulic jacks and other lifting equipment
Special Skills:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints sketchesdrawingsand technical manualsin order toreassemble and align according to specifications.
Reasonable knowledge of machinerybearings fasteners sealsmechanicalapplicationsand their tolerance requirements.
Perform basic mathematical functions.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
High performance andstrongteamplayer.
Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressureswith minimum supervision.
