Job Summary

The undergraduate intern is expected to positively represent CCE using professional verbal and written communication skills while communicating with multiple audiences and supporting CCEs equity diversity and inclusion principles.

The intern will be expected to meet with their supervisor weekly and demonstrate excellent time management project management and multi-tasking skills necessary when working independently.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist with voter registration tabling throughout the semester and at special events such as Welcome Week Constitution Day National Voter Registration Day Athletic games Family Weekend Festival ISU and other major campus events and as opportunities arise.
2. Assist with all aspects of election-related events on campus including preparing materials setting up/tearing down tables recruiting participants and leading activities.
3. Deliver informational presentations to RSOs Greek Life athletic teams and in classes about voter registration education and turnout.
4. Distribute election handouts and giveaways around campus and door-to-door at student apartments to inform students about the upcoming election.
5. Attend weekly team meetings to discuss current/upcoming projects and responsibilities.
6. Attend professional development activities such as conferences and webinars/workshops as they arise.
7. Other duties that may arise will provide an opportunity to better understand the operations of CCE and civic engagement in a university setting such as attending meetings or events.

Internship Outcomes
As a result of this internship interns will develop:
communication and public speaking skills time management and project management skills
the ability to adapt to a changing environment
extensive knowledge of electoral processes
political organizing skills to mobilize students to the polls

Philosophy:
CCE designs internships with the student learning experience as a priority. We want to understand students learning goals and create a mutually beneficial experience. While the position may focus on specific duties/projects/initiatives the intern will be able to learn about all forms of civic engagement.

Length of Internship: Fall 2026 (approximately August 1-November 22) *dates flexible and negotiable

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) is a unique department with responsibilities that support the missions of the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Academic Affairs.

CCE is responsible for enacting Illinois States commitment to civic engagement and fostering a culture that values and rewards civic engagement. This is accomplished through a variety of programs and services with students faculty and staff and in partnership with Bloomington-Normal community organizations. CCE organizes work around civic engagement including volunteering and service-learning political engagement and civic education.

CCE is comprised of six professional staff members two graduate assistants and several student workers interns or fellows. While each staff member has specific responsibilities the department operates as a team and therefore all staff are expected to support a variety of programs and services.

The Center for Civic Engagement is at 300 W. North St. Normal IL. However occasional meetings and participation/work at events on campus will also be necessary.

Proficient with Microsoft software (i.e. Word Excel)
Attention to detail
Perform tasks promptly and professionally
Interest in and/or experience with voter engagement work
Valid U.S. drivers license

Work Hours

5-10 hours a week varies based on need and interns schedule and event schedule

This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and if applicable an employment history review based on University Policy 3.1.30 and any offer of employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation and/or an employment history review.
