Winston-Salem State University is seeking a dynamic and visionary Head Basketball Coach to lead the Rams into their next era of excellence! Reporting to the Interim Director of Athletics this leader will oversee all aspects of the basketball program shaping a culture of success integrity and Ram Pride on and off the field. Duties & Responsibilities of the Head Coach of Mens Basketball: Preparation and conduct of all team-related activities including skill instruction sport strategy and competitive opportunities. To provide an overall positive educational environment for our Student-Athletes conducive to learning athletic development social growth and preparing them for life beyond college. Use expert technical knowledge of Mens Basketball to develop and coach a successful program including the development of high-quality student-athletes organizing and supervising practice conditioning and workouts overseeing home events and managing travel for away events supervising staff and demonstrating athletic excellence. Supervise in conjunction with the athletic tutoring and advising program the total academic progress of the team implementing corrective action plans through appropriate staff. Selection oversight development and retention of staff (assistants graduate assistants and managers). Supervise the recruitment strategy to attract top-level prospects including identification assessment campus visits and implementation of campus resources. Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes to support the image and reputation of the department and university. Responsible for the development safety and conduct of the student-athletes within the Mens Basketball program. Perform team-related administrative duties such as budget scheduling travel arrangements etc. Establish a leadership/mentor role among student-athletes assistant coaches and other supportive staff while promoting sportsmanship and responsible behavior both during and outside of athletic competition. Perform both direct and indirect public relations functions including promotion fundraising public speaking community events and through camps and/or clinics. Assist with departmental needs as requested. When practical under the circumstances intercollegiate athletic staff is encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for WSSU team efforts.
Preferred Years Experience Skills Training Education
Masters degree in a relevant field Competitive coaching experience in Mens Basketball at the university or college level. Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations. Demonstrated ability to communicate with and relate well to female student-athletes high school/club coaches and department support staff. Demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining quality student-athletes particularly at the regional (Southeast/Atlantic) level. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate through oral written and electronic forms.
