Location: Shelby Montana United States Job Type: Contract Duration: 12 Weeks (Initial) Schedule: 12-Hour Shifts (Days or Nights) Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours/Week
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care within a secure correctional healthcare setting. This role is responsible for delivering patient-centered care administering treatments and medications and supporting the coordination of healthcare services. The RN utilizes clinical expertise to ensure compliance with established medical standards while maintaining safety security and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver direct patient care including assessment treatment and medication administration
Execute provider orders and assist during medical examinations and procedures
Conduct sick calls and prepare patients and examination areas
Administer medications and maintain accurate documentation
Respond to medical emergencies and perform appropriate clinical interventions
Monitor patient health status and initiate referrals when necessary
Supervise and support LPNs and other healthcare staff
Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of medical records
Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations including controlled substances
Conduct audits to prevent medication misuse or duplication
Manage chronic and acute healthcare conditions
Perform safety inspections of medical units for risks and contraband
Provide patient education and health counseling
Maintain accurate medical records reports and logs
Coordinate care with external providers and healthcare services
Participate in accreditation and compliance processes (e.g. NCCHC ACA JCAHO)
Assist with incident reporting legal documentation and court-related requirements as needed
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing (RN) program
Active and unrestricted RN license in the state of Montana
Valid drivers license required
Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience preferred
Strong clinical judgment communication and documentation skills
Ability to work effectively in a secure correctional environment
