QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 21 years of age
Current Louisiana A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
which includes P S and Air Brake Endorsements
ASE Certified (Diesel) or obtain certification within first year of
employment
REPORTS TO: Shop Manager / Foreman
SUPERVISES: Such staff as assigned by the Director of Transportation
JOB GOAL: To perform direct maintenance and repair support to the bus fleet and
other designated vehicles owned by the Rapides Parish School Board.
TERM: Twelve (12) months
SALARY: Non-Certified Salary Schedule SB-117
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform repairs on all board-owned buses.
2. Perform repairs on all board-owned vehicles.
3. Diagnose the cause of mechanical failure through visual or auditory means and by using
various test equipment.
4. Determine if adjustments are necessary to complete work orders.
5. Remove major assemblies.
6. Repair and overhaul minor assemblies to include injectors brake cylinders wheel
cylinders etc.
7. Inspect buses to meet state safety requirements.
8. Inspect buses on scheduled basis to determine repair need.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work assignments require incumbent to frequently lift carry stoop bend crawl stretch climb
stand and occasionally work on equipment or parts in hard to reach places. Lifting of items up to
40 to 50 pounds in weight is often required and occasionally heavier items are moved by
pushing pulling or lifting with others.

TITLE: MECHANIC I
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employee is frequently exposed to cuts bruises scrapes strains burns etc. Work is performed
inside and outside on hard surfaces with exposure to dust grease drafts fumes changing
temperatures etc. Some work may also be performed on equipment with exposure to fluids such
as oil acid etc. Employee must adhere to prescribed best practices and use safety equipment
such as protective ear devices and hard-toe shoes
