Job Summary

PURPOSE:

To gain knowledge and training to be able to provide counseling services to both voluntary and

involuntary clients. Work with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health. May

work with individuals couples and/or families in the areas of: parenting; marital problems; mood

management; trauma; stress management; problems with self-esteem; issues associated with

aging and mental and emotional health; at-risk behaviors; as well as developmental/cognitive

issues.


LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:

The internship duration is a minimum of two (2) semesters (one semester is four (4) months) with weekly work hours ranging between 10-20 hours a week depending on the workload and school expectations of your college.


INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Follow the American Counseling Association (ACA) code of ethics guidelines
    • Scheduling clients for Parent Risk Assessments (PRAs) and attend interview sessions with Clinical Supervisor assist with testing tools scoring and report writing
    • Maintain PRA scheduling spreadsheet for Clinical Supervisor
    • Manage and maintain scheduling for Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) assessments for the Clinical Supervisor and attend sessions as assigned and assist with report writing.
    • Gather maintain score psychological assessment tools to be administered
    • Properly administer psychological tests and score as assigned
    • Email social workers regarding clients as directed by Clinical Supervisor or other licensed professionals
    • Attend and participate in weekly SW Group (Tuesdays at 8:00-9:00 am) with Clinical Supervisor
    • Shadow with Clinical Supervisor and other licensed professionals on staff
    • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients treatment as stated in Wisconsin State statutes
    • Meet with families social workers and other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process.
    • Provide outpatient counseling services as assigned
    • Communicate effectively with Team Leaders Peers Office Assistant Team Billing Team
    • Share college class schedule and changes with Clinical Supervisor and Clinic Administrator
    • Understand and adhere to healthy boundaries with clients
    • Possess basic knowledge of computers (Google email internet etc)
    • Organize plan and prioritize work
    • Use conflict resolution techniques
    • Advise clients in emergency situations
    • Follow confidentiality procedures
    • Relate to clients socioeconomic conditions
    • Evaluate client response to therapy
    • Monitor client progress
    • Learn about new developments in the field by reading professional literature attending college courses and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.
    • Working knowledge of information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy.
    • Maintain awareness of behavioral crisis-management techniques and personal safety as well as physical skills necessary relative to frequent travel/driving.
    • Understand and follow policies and procedures of the Counseling/Psychotherapy Department and Stein Counseling and Consulting Services Ltd. as outlined in the department and agency policy manuals as well as applicable state statutes and administrative code chapters specific to the profession for the State of Wisconsin.
    • Track time in WorkflowMax (WFM) timesheet accurately and complete and submit end of each business week
    • Set up shadowing times with direct care team and attempt to follow same clients as scheduled to learn process and build relationships and counseling skills
    • Complete progress notes in TherapyAppointment by 1:00 pm next business day
    • Other duties as assigned by Clinic Administrator Clinical Supervisor President or CFO
    • Learn process and enter data from client satisfaction surveys for all licensed professionals administer for own caseload
    • Develop personal and professional goals during your internship.
    • Complete client satisfaction surveys after intake assessment is completed and every
    • Maintain acceptable ratings (85% or better) in all areas on performance reviews (job performance supervisor ratings client satisfaction surveys collateral ratings QAUR etc) every ninety (90) days.

    INTERNSHIP QUALIFICATIONS:

    High School diploma and Bachelors degree required: Must be in college working towards Masters degree in one of the following areas: Human Services Psychology Child and Youth Care At- Risk Youth Clinical Psychology or other Health and Human Services related field

        • Organizational skills are required
        • Ability to follow directions meet deadlines; complete weekly timesheets by deadlines track direct contact hours with clients complete progress notes by 1:00 pm next business day
        • Complete treatment plans after intake assessment and every ninety (90) days thereafter
        • Complete client satisfaction surveys after intake assessment and every ninety (90) days thereafter
        • Highly detail oriented and task driven
        • Appreciates the sensitivity and nature of working with mental health clients and is able to maintain confidentiality in all circumstances.
        • Maintain HIPAA guidelines
        • Presents self to others in a professional manner (e.g. in verbal/written communications)
        • Possess the ability to work independently as well as know when to seek guidance and direction from the Clinical Supervisor and Clinic Administrator
        • Positive attitude good team player able to meet deadlines without exception takes initiative exceptional communication skills willing to be helpful when extra projects are needed to be completed

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    This position requires: dealing with resistant and reluctant clientele and an ability to manage conflict; the ability to work without close supervision; the ability to meet strict deadlines as outlined by state and agency expectations; and the ability to work with external customers and/or the public.


    SALARY: This is an unpaid position that contributes towards college credit.


    SUPERVISION: This position will report to the Clinical Supervisor and the Clinic Administrator.


    OFFICE HOURS: This position requires a flexible schedule. Office hours Monday-Thursday 8:00 am - 6:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am- 3:00 pm and must be flexible and willing to work early evenings.
