What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Healths pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals hospital retail customers ambulatory care and alternate site facilities oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.
Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications supplies and related processes.
Job Summary
The QA Pharmacy Technician is responsible for overseeing controlled substance tracking supporting accurate Medicare billing and ensuring regulatory compliance across pharmacy operations. Reporting to the Quality and Medication Safety Manager this role plays a critical part in audit readiness license management and communication with clinical teams to resolve billing and compliance issues efficiently.
About the The MA State Office of Pharmacy (MSOPS) Pharmacy Distribution Center (PDC)
The MA State Office of Pharmacy Distribution Center provides medications via distribution (bulk) and central fill (in unit dose or blister card form) for DDS DPH DMH DOC and HOC facilities throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
Controlled Substance Management
Track and monitor unit-dose and bulk controlled substance purchases.
Conduct routine audits to ensure accuracy compliance and proper documentation.
Generate detailed audit reports from Controlled Substance logs invoices drug purchasing systems and Omnicell transaction data.
Competently review and escalate discrepancies.
Assure all controlled substance records are properly reviewed and signed by appropriate persons and filed according to state and federal law.
Medicare Billing & File Preparation
Prepare and review Medicare billing files to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Investigate and resolve billing issues including NDC rejections pricing discrepancies and claim rejections.
Audit medical records for appropriate medication billing and enter/ adjust charges and credits within patient profiles for accurate reimbursement.
Organize and properly store all billing records and claims data for easy retrieval and review.
Ensure compliance with Medicare and billing requirements.
Regulatory Compliance & Inspections
Conduct periodic pharmacy inspections to ensure adherence to federal and state regulations.
Identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
Conduct staff observations to monitor quality and safety adherence.
License Monitoring & Record-Keeping
Maintain and track facility licenses and registrations including MCSR DEA and Department of Public Health (DPH) requirements.
Ensure all documentation is current accurate and survey-ready.
Communication & Collaboration
Serve as a key point of contact for site teams regarding billing audit findings and pharmacy compliance matters.
Support staff training and education.
Provide guidance and support to identify quality issues and drive process improvement initiatives.
Perform other pharmacy-related duties per the needs of facility as assigned by manager.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be Licensed as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in the Commonwealth of MA.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or ExCPT) or actively working to become certified within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge of pharmacy operations compliance and controlled substance regulations.
Understanding of NDC billing processes and drug reimbursement in Medicare or healthcare billing is highly preferred.
High proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications and data tracking tools (i.e. Excel)
Experience with Omnicell or other Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) systems preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Must work well with a team.
May require vendor credentialing.

Anticipated hourly range:$25.20 per hour - $28.80 per hour.
