PROGRAM VISION

Kenowa Hills Public Schools is launching an exciting new Agriscience and FFA program as part of our continued investment in innovative future-focused learning opportunities for students.

With recently approved bond funding and access to district land this position offers a unique opportunity to design build and grow a program from the ground upconnecting students to real-world experiences in agriculture environmental science and skilled trades.

This is more than a teaching positionit is an opportunity to create a legacy program that connects classroom learning to careers community partnerships and hands-on experiences.

SUMMARY

The Agriscience Teacher & FFA Advisor will develop and deliver a dynamic hands-on instructional program aligned to Michigan standards while building a strong FFA chapter that promotes leadership citizenship and career readiness.

The ideal candidate is an innovative educator who thrives in a flexible student-centered environment and is excited to design authentic learning experiences tied to agriculture science and community engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Agriscience/Natural Resources (DA) and/or a secondary science endorsement (e.g. DI DA DC DE or DH)
  • Ability to obtain appropriate CTE/Agriscience authorization if needed
  • Experience or strong interest in agricultural education environmental science or related fields
  • Demonstrated ability to develop hands-on project-based learning experiences
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to collaborate with community partners and industry professionals
  • Commitment to culturally responsive practices and inclusive learning environments
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with FFA or willingness to serve as an FFA Advisor
  • Experience developing or expanding a program
  • Multiple endorsements (e.g. Science CTE or related areas)
  • Experience with project-based or experiential learning

  • Stand walk and move frequently throughout the day in both indoor and outdoor environments
  • Work in varying weather conditions including heat cold and uneven terrain
  • Lift carry and move materials and equipment (up to 50 pounds)
  • Safely supervise students using tools equipment and materials associated with agriscience and outdoor learning environments
  • Demonstrate and model safe practices in laboratory shop and outdoor settings
  • Bend squat kneel and perform physical tasks associated with hands-on instruction
  • Respond quickly to student needs in active and dynamic learning environments

This role also requires:

  • The ability to work in environments with moderate to high noise levels and frequent movement
  • The ability to maintain a calm safe and structured environment while supervising students in non-traditional settings
  • The ability to support students with a range of academic social and behavioral needs

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND EXPECTATIONS

This position includes both classroom instruction and outdoor hands-on learning experiences. The role may involve:

  • Working in a variety of environments including classrooms outdoor learning spaces and community sites
  • Supervising students during experiential learning activities
  • Flexible scheduling including occasional evening or weekend events (FFA activities competitions community events)
  • Building and sustaining a program that evolves over time

The ability to be flexible innovative and student-centered is essential.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Full-time teaching position
  • Additional compensation and/or extended contract for FFA responsibilities as applicable
