Job Summary

At Roche you can show up as yourself embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression open dialogue and genuine connections where you are valued accepted and respected for who you are allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche where every voice matters.

The Position

Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.

Are you ready to join a global network spanning 20 countries where bright minds collaborate to tackle real-world challenges in Innovation & Sustainability Do you want to work on impactful projects shape the future and drive change from within

As an intern you will contribute to a project focused on reducing physical testing in PTT-D through digital twin simulations for sustainable shipping. The project aims to shift from resource-intensive test-to-fail approaches toward more proactive and efficient virtual trials by screening and benchmarking simulation software for Roche-specific packaging shipping and device testing needs. Within your first 3 months you are expected to help deliver a software benchmarking matrix support two pilot digital twin use cases using historical test data quantify sustainability benefits and contribute to a recommendation report for a future simulation software stack. Your work will help reduce CO2 emissions and material waste while supporting faster and more efficient development cycles. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply advanced simulation methods to a highly practical sustainability challenge in healthcare.

The Opportunity

  • Conduct a market screening of leading simulation software suited for pharmaceutical cold-chain and device testing

  • Map Pharma Technical Technology-Devices (PPT-D) technical requirements such as mechanical stress thermal stability vibration profiles and tolerance analysis against software capabilities

  • Develop a weighted benchmarking matrix comparing software options based on simulation accuracy computational speed ease of integration and overall fit

  • Set up and run two pilot digital twin use cases using historical physical test data for validation

  • Support the assessment of how virtual simulations can replace or reduce physical testing activities

  • Quantify the potential reduction in CO2 emissions and material waste achieved through a shift from physical trials to digital simulations

  • Contribute to a formal recommendation report including shortlist technical fit gap analysis and implementation roadmap

  • Communicate technical findings in a clear way that supports long-term digital strategy decisions within Pharma Technical Technology-Devices Packaging and Distribution. (PPT-D)

Who You Are

You are enrolled or have completed your Masters or PhD studies at a university preferably in the field of Mechanical Engineering Computational Science Packaging Engineering Physics or Aerospace Engineering with a focus on Finite Element Analysis or Thermal Simulations within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months.

Furthermore you are

  • Knowledgeable in finite element analysis and simulation tools

  • Strong in mechanical and thermal physics and comfortable translating physical problems into digital models

  • Experienced with data analysis using Python MATLAB or advanced Excel; familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD is an advantage

  • Interested in packaging-related applications and sustainable development in healthcare

  • An independent and proactive problem solver who communicates technical results clearly in English

If you meet most but not all qualifications we still encourage you to apply.

Additional information

The internship is expected to start between 1 and 16 July 2026 and will last at least 3 months.
