A position is available for a Temporary Scientist fellow to join the Institute of Human Biology (IHB). The institute is a newly established research center in Basel Switzerland dedicated to advancing human biology through the use of human model systems for translational research. Our dynamic and interdisciplinary environment fosters collaboration among biologists engineers and data scientists bridging the gap between academic and pharmaceutical research. Closely associated with Roches Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) we partner with leading academic institutions both locally and globally to address grand challenges with bold innovative science.
The Opportunity
This position is based within the Immuno-Stem cell Dynamics Lab in Exploratory Biology. If you have experience in bioinformatics statistics and software development for biology related subjects and are eager to continue your career we encourage you to apply.
As a Scientist Fellow you will collaborate with world-class academic institutions such as ETH Zürich and EPFL as well as global biopharma leaders. You will have access to a wide network of academic and industry experts state-of-the-art platforms and technologies and Roches core facilities. This collaborative environment will offer you the freedom to conduct innovative research while shaping your research vision and making meaningful contributions to human biology.
Who you are:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biology biophysics biochemistry or a related discipline.
Candidates must have experience in software development
Demonstrated proficiency with Python and machine learning libraries; pytorch sklearn
Experience with transformer architectures and interpretable AI methods and libraries concept-bottleneck architectures attribution packages: shap captum etc.
Experience with bulk and/or single-cell omics data analysis (e.g. bulk genomics and transcriptomics single-cell RNA-seq Perturb-seq)
Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate about complex bioinformatics problems to both technical and non-technical audiences; this should be both in written and verbal form as evidenced by first-author publications in high-impact journals
Independent highly motivated and highly collaborative with the ability to work together with multi-disciplinary teams of computational and laboratory biologists
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in cancer genomics and pre- and/or post-training of foundation models for biology is preferred
Passionate about working in a scientific environment especially one that is related to drug discovery and development
You have lots of ideas: some good some great; you are quickly able to prioritize prototype and pressure-test new ideas to reduce time between iterations
Quick learner are curious about new areas and the opportunity to build expertise and courageously boldly and creatively take initiative to see your ideas implemented
Able to perform at a high level in a fast changing and demanding environment
