Job Summary
Tumela Lower mining is embarking on a structural remedial program to replace multiple buntons screens guides and walkway platforms on the bottom portion of the mine. Being part of the structural repair crew will give the full opportunity to construct and fabricate steel work up until the installation and evaluation phase. This project seeks experienced personnel well known for conducting such specialized work.
The Master Rigger is responsible for providing expert specialised engineering services (e.g.: Master Riggers are licensed to supervise the hoisting of materials and equipment outside of buildings irrespective of weight)
Roles and responsibilities include the below:
- Conduct and participate in Risk assessments
- Attend to breakdowns and emergencies as required
- Ensure that material spares and equipment are available as required
- Exercise judgment with regards to repair versus replacement versus upgrade of components
- To assist riggers and relevant staff with advanced troubleshooting and support
- Actively pursue with the intention to obtain specialised knowledge from Original Equipment
- Manufacturers and external specialists on the maintenance and testing of complex systems with the intention to develop and execute in-house procedures.
- Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
- Test rigging equipments to ensure safety and reliability.
- Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving using hand and power tools
- Select gear such as slings shackles and winches according to load weights and sizes facilities and work schedules.
- Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces using chain falls gin poles frames and other equipment.
- Tilt dip and turn suspended loads to maneuver over under and/or around obstacles using multipoint suspension techniques.
- Manipulate rigging lines hoists and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment.
- Clean and dress machine surfaces and component parts.
- Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams ceilings and booms using bolts and clamps
- Report any contraventions of the Minerals Act MHSA Regulations codes of practice instructions permissions exemptions.
- Be responsible for the appropriate discipline of subordinates learners or support personnel and contractors.
- Accountable for the actions behavior and safety of subordinates learners or support personnel and contractors during access to restricted access areas and substations.
- Coach riggers subordinates learners or support personnel and contractors towards compliance
- with VP standards specifications and procedures relating to the discipline.
The role is at a C3 level reporting to the Foreman.
Qualifications :
- Grade 12 or technical N2 certificate (N3 or N4 will be advantageous)
- Rigger Ropesman Trade Test
- Crane Inspection Training
- Advance Scaffolding Inspection
- Advance Scaffolding Erection (advantageous)
Experience
- 8 years experience of which 4-5 years as a qualified rigger within the mining of heavy industrial sectors
Knowledge and Skills
- Proficient in A2 Safety
- Proficient in VFL Training
- Advanced knowledge of all site-specific mechanical equipment
- Must demonstrate advanced skills to troubleshoot repair and maintain mechanical equipment with specific focus on condition monitoring defect elimination and continuous improvement
- Proficient English (Speak Read and Write)
- Proficient in equipment and machinery specific competence as per the role specific requirements detailed in the skills matrix
