Role description:

The Corporate Audit Executive (CAE) is responsible for delivering independent objective and risk based internal audit assurance across Arcadis N.V. in line with the Internal Audit Charter and the Dutch Corporate Governance Code.

The role is deliberately hands on with most of the time spent planning executing and reporting internal audits across finance non-financial / ESG reporting compliance operations projects technology governance and transformation. Leadership responsibilities focus on setting direction quality and credibility rather than managing a large team.

Role accountabilities:

Audit Execution

  • Personally plan perform and document internal audit engagements across Arcadis business areas global functions regions and major programmes.
  • Execute audits in accordance with:
    • The Internal Audit Charter
    • Riskbased annual internal audit plan
    • Relevant professional standards.
  • Perform endtoend audits including:
    • Risk assessment and scoping
    • Process walkthroughs and control design assessment
    • Operating effectiveness testing
    • Rootcause analysis
    • Clear evidencebased conclusions.
  • Draft highquality internal audit reports clearly articulating:
    • Control weaknesses risk exposure and root causes
    • Impact on financial and non-financial (ESG) reporting operations compliance or reputation
    • Practical prioritised recommendations.
  • Conduct followup audits and validation of management actions tracking remediation effectiveness.
  • Act as a trusted challenger to management maintaining independence while being and valueadding and pragmatic.
  • Coordinate closely with secondline functions (Risk Compliance Security Quality) and align with external auditors where appropriate.

2. Leadership & Governance

  • Own and maintain the Internal Audit Charter audit methodology and quality standards.
  • Prepare and periodically update the riskbased internal audit plan in dialogue with:
    • Executive Board
    • Audit & Risk Committee
    • External auditor.
  • Refresh the plan using external insights to anticipate emerging risks.
  • Embed data analytics automation and AI in scoping fieldwork and reporting.
  • Present audit results thematic insights and progress updates to:
    • Executive Board
    • Audit & Risk Committee.
  • Lead by example as a playercoach providing technical guidance and quality oversight to any supporting auditors or cosourced partners.
  • Ensure the Internal Audit function meets:
    • Independence requirements
    • Quality assurance and improvement expectations (QAIP)
    • Periodic external assessment obligations.
  • Act as a senior ambassador for strong governance risk awareness and internal control culture across Arcadis.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Significant experience in internal audit external audit or risk assurance ideally within:
    • Listed companies
    • Professional services engineering infrastructure or projectbased environments.
  • Proven ability to personally execute complex audits not just oversee them.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Internal control frameworks
    • Financial non-financial (ESG) operational compliance and cyber risk
    • Governance and compliance in an international environment.
  • Experience interacting with senior executives and audit committees.
  • Relevant professional qualifications preferred (e.g. CIA CPA ACCA RA or equivalent).
