Job Overview:
The Commis Chef is an entry-level position in the kitchen responsible for assisting with basic food preparation tasks and maintaining high standards of hygiene and organization. This role provides a foundation for developing culinary skills and gaining experience working in a professional kitchen under the guidance of more senior chefs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of food under the supervision of senior chefs
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and workstations
- Measure prepare and organize ingredients as directed
- Follow recipes and presentation standards
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations
- Support the kitchen team with daily tasks and cleaning duties
- Store ingredients and food items properly
- Assist with receiving and checking deliveries
- Learn and develop culinary techniques and kitchen procedures
Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen hygiene
- Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team
- Flexibility to work shifts including evenings weekends and holidays
- High school diploma or equivalent; culinary training or certification is a plus
- Previous experience in a kitchen (even as a trainee or intern) is beneficial but not required
